I stepped off the plane without Yuri. I know I shouldn't have lied but still he should be able to trust me. I sighed and drove to the limo knowing Maxwell warned them of my arrival.
"Mrs.Maxwell" The chauffeur bowed and opened the door for me. I got in and sat back sighing.
"Mrs. Maxwell your sir is on the phone."I nodded and hoped he had told this nice man that I was mute.
"Hi Princess"I heard a eager voice at the end of the receiver.
"I know you aren't with Yuri and I'm trying to keep my cool. But it's hard to if you keep lying too me now I checked with Harold and he told me that his business is international, please don't tell me you went over seas to get money"growled his eager voice leaving him.
I tapped on the end twice ' no '. I whispered out a small cry and sucked a breathe in.
"Selena hey I'm S-" I hung up the phone before he could even answer. I was too shocked that he went back to Harold. The penthouse was huge, This is where Maxwell and I liked to travel when we needed to get away. I absolutely loved it here. The clear blue water almost clear enough to drink. I smiled as I watched a couple walking along the beach, holding hands. They must've been newly weds. I sat back in the chair and sipped the hurricane drink that was given to me.
"Mrs.Maxwell phone for you,"
I flung my hand telling her to go away, she knew I was mute and I was greatful for her.
"sorry sir, she no wanna speak with you."'
"Ma'am he's angry" I took the phone and tapped twice before hanging up the phone. He can live with being pissed.
My weekend had been short lived because Maxwell's mother was in the hospital and she wasn't doing well.
***********
Sometimes I wished she'd just talk to me. I constantly wondered what happened to her that ended her speech abilities. But I knew better than to ask her. That pissed me off to a certain extent because I wanted to hear her voice.
I want to hear the sweet sounds she would make when I made love to her but this bottled up secret would have to surface. I looked down at my dying mother and held her hand, only then did I hear the soft footsteps of my love.
She frowned and ran to hug me sobbing softly. I felt her pain because my mother was the only thing close to a mother she's ever had. She even told my mother her secret before me but that was when she was a call girl and didn't mean so much to me.
"Don't cry for me Lena, you just take very good care of my baby" my mother managed to choke out before the line went dead. After that it was all a blur for me. I could feel Selena clinging to me crying hysterically no matter how many times I rubbed her back. I sucked in a deep breathe and choked back my tears as nurses and doctors rushed into the room. We already knew she was dead before they came in.
Selena was sleeping in my arms her face puffy and swollen from wiping the tears away with hard tissue. I carried her to my car and drove her back to my house so she could rest. I carefully peeled off her clothes and pulled the covers up her body. I climbed into bed with her and slept. I couldn't really think straight because my mother being gone meant my father had to come back. I let my mind go black and drifted off to sleep.
I woke myself up early the next morning and went to my office so I could begin to make funeral arrangements. I sat there making calls all morning.
'Valerie told me you never got the chance to eat so I cooked and brought you breakfast.'
I looked down at the plate that had been placed on my stack of papers and smiled warmly.
"Ah my beautiful distraction has finally awoken."I said warmly looking up at her.
She sat down on my knee and basically forced me to eat. I cleared my throat and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you."I whispered, "now please leave me to my work."I sent her back with the plate.
