The Party

They tell you before going to college that it will be the 4 years that define your life, but they never tell you that a defining moment could happen in the first week of the first year of your experience.

--1 Day Before The Party--

Allie's POV

I wake up like any other day this week, slightly sad about not having my mother's famous pancake breakfast ready for me but happy that i've started a new chapter in my life. Sighing happily I stretch my arms above my head and turn my head towards my roommate Kasey's bed where she is currently wrapped in her blankets still asleep. The day we met it was like we knew each other since childhood, Kasey came to Minnesota from Colorado while I came from Vermont. We immediately bonded over our love of Harry Potter and living in places known for their ski hills.

These past few days we've been eating at the dining hall together and watching movies with some of the other girls on our floor. So far we've become a big family and have been exploring some campus spots and city attractions when we have the time.

A few hours later while Kasey is out to get some things for her classes I am sitting on my bed re-reading a Harry Potter novel. My phone chimes with a text message notification so I slip my bookmark into the book before closing it and putting it down. I take my phone off of my nightstand and look at the notification. When I see that it's my roommate Kasey I open it,

K: Party tomorrow. We r going.

Just the thought of a party makes my nerves spike.

A: Idk, I've never been 2 a party

K: Well this is the perfect time to experiement

I sit there contemplating my choice.

K: I know that you R overthinking this, i'll be back in a few minutes then we can talk

A: Kk

I put my phone down as I bite my lip thinking about what could happen tomorrow if I do go to the party.

As promised Kasey comes through the door of our dorm room with a smile on her face, "hey Allie" she says, "hey" I reply with a smile. She drops her bag on her own bed and she comes over to sit on my desk chair facing me, "so this party is going to be at some hockey player's house and it's apparently an annual thing that everyone goes to" she starts with excitement on her face, "I think we should go and ring in our first year of college" she adds. Sighing I look down at my hands and fiddle with them, "I just don't want to start off the next for years with a bad experience" I explain, "but what if something amazing happens, what if you meet the guy of your dreams" Kasey exclaims positively, "I doubt it, those kind of things don't happen to girls like me" I say while pushing my glasses higher onto my nose. "Don't think like that Allie, anything can happen in college" she tells me, I groan knowing that I won't be able to get out of this, "okay, i'll go" I say, she squeals and hops off her seat before jumping onto the bed and hugging me tightly, "this is going to be so fun" she exclaims. Kasey spends the rest of the night thinking up outfits for us, I listen and eventually fall asleep.

--Day of the Party--

The next morning i'm woken up when Kasey starts jumping on my bed, "WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP" she yells, I groan and take a pillow before throwing it at her. She continues yelling at me and I pull my covers over my head to block out the noise, when I feel no more bounces on the bed I sigh happily relaxing into my bed again. Suddenly my covers are pulled off of me and I shiver at the cold air surrounding me, "you're mean" I tell Kasey when I see her smirking at me with my covers in her hand, "you love me Allie" she exclaims. "Get up and get dressed I want to go to Bordertown before we do anything else" she adds before dropping my covers and walking to her closet. I swing my legs off of my bed and run my fingers through my hair to tame the tangles.
