The Party

Allie's POV

The next morning I wake up around noon and I remember all of the events of the night before, I stretch before getting out of bed and changing out of my pjs. I look over at Kasey's bed and I see that it's empty, I shrug it off and go down to the dining hall for some brunch. Once I have all my food I balance my tray as I walk over to a vacant table. I slip into the seat and I notice a card on the table so I grab it, my eyes widen when I see Nate on it posing in a full hockey uniform advertising the upcoming exhibition hockey games for the Golden Gophers. I forget about my food for a second as I slip out my phone to text Kasey,

A: Where r u? I have something to tell u

K: At the campus bookstore

A: Stay there i'm coming

I take the card and then go and put my food in a take out container before leaving the dining hall and going to the bookstore as quickly as I can. When I get to the store I bend over to catch my breath before looking around for my roommate. "Allie over here" I hear, I turn and see my redhead roommate waving at me, I walk over to her smiling. "What did you want to tell me?" she adds, I pull out the card from the dining hall, "I met this guy last night, he got me out of an awkward situation" I explain, she squeals and I shush her so that we don't attract attention. "How are you so calm! an attractive athlete helped you out at a party, this is what I was telling you, he could be your dream guy" she exclaims while shaking my shoulders, "he's probably already forgotten about me, I don't expect anything and I certainly don't expect to be dating anyone my first year of college" I tell her, "we HAVE to go to one of these games" Kasey says excitedly, "okay, but don't expect anything for just showing up to a hockey game" I tell her.

A few hours later as i'm sitting at my desk on my laptop Kasey comes over to my side of the room with a bunch of sheets of paper, "okay so I've looked up this Nate guy and he's pretty amazing, he's a junior and he's a dual athlete in hockey and baseball, he's at the top of his class" I interrupt her, "woah, slow down Kase, why did you creep him so hard?", "I have to make sure my roomie's future hubby is good enough" she replies, "i've met the guy once, he probably has a girlfriend and he's wayyyy out of my league" I explain as I turn back to my computer.

There's a knock at our door at 6 so I get up from my desk chair and see that Kasey has her headphones in as she stares at something on her laptop. I swing the door open and see one of our floor mates, Jenny, standing there, "me and some of the girls are going to the guys hockey game tonight, do you gals want to join us?" she asks, before I can reply Kasey runs over, "yes we're definitely coming" she exclaims happily, I go back into our room and grab my purse which holds my wallet, keys and phone, before going back to Jenny and my overexcited roommate. "Lets do this" I say as I lock our door and follow the girls down the stairs and out of the building as we start our trek to the arena.

The roar of the crowd greets us as we enter the arena, I look out at the ice and see our team, the Golden Gophers, my eyes immediately try to find Nate on the ice but I can't seem to spot him. "Looking for your man?" Kasey asks startling me a little, I hold my hand over my heart, "don't sneak up on me like that Kase" I say, she laughs, "is it bad that I am looking for him?" I add while turning back towards the ice, "not at all" Kasey says. "Let's go girlies we want to get good seats" Jenny exclaims and we follow her and some of the other girls we came with. Our group sits right up against the glass, "nice and up close" I say to Kasey who is sitting next to me, "yeah, perfect" she exclaims, I go to talk but the lights turn off and the announcer starts the introduction of the game. The players skate out and do laps around their end of the ice in front of us, I look for blond hair peeking out of a helmet, as they skate by us I see Nate's face and I look away hoping he doesn't spot me. Once I look back to the ice I see the player lined up for the anthem, I stand as the announcer requests.

Before I know it the third period is starting and the Gophers are leading 4-2 with the crowd going crazy as the players return to the ice. I clap along with the crowd and cringe when Kasey yells along with everyone. The first line for the Gophers are skating around in front of us preparing for the face-off, Nate skates by and we make eye contact, he does a double take as he turns to the face-off circle, I wave slightly and I see a smile come to his face as he winks. I blush and look away, "THAT WAS ADORABLE" Kasey practically screams, I look over at her and see her and the rest of the girls staring at me in awe. "Stop staring" I say blushing even more as I look down at my lap where I'm fidgeting with my fingers. "I SHIP IT" Jenny screams happily and all the girls nod with huge smiles on their faces.

At the end of the game Kasey drags me to the back door of the arena where the players leave, she insists that I have to see Nate after our moment before the third. We told the rest of the girls that they could go back to the dorms without us since it will probably be awhile before we leave. " I can't believe we're doing this" I say to Kasey quietly, "you'll thank me one day" she replies with a smirk on her face, I roll my eyes but still let out a laugh. I put my hair up in a ponytail as I keep waiting for Nate, Kasey suddenly stops her talking and her eyes widen, "what?" I ask in confusion, "you missed a piece" I hear a deep voice say behind me as a loose piece of hair is tugged gently, I turn and see Nate smiling down at me. I pull my hair back down and put the hair elastic around my wrist, "problem solved" I say with a smile, "I saw you at the game, did you have a good time?" he asks, "yeah it was alright, I just didn't understand much of it" I reply shyly as I look down at my feet, "I guess i'll have to give you a crash course in hockey rules" he tells me, "I guess so" I exclaim as I look up at him and shrug. "How about we give each other our numbers and then we can set up a time to get you all caught up on hockey" he explains while taking out his phone and holding it out to me, I take his phone and enter my name and number in his contacts, "your turn" I say while holding my phone out to him, he laughs and enters his contact info into my phone. "We should go" Kasey suddenly says, I blink and turn realizing that I totally forgot that she was here with me, "she's right, it's getting late, but I guess i'll talk to you later" I exclaim before going up to him and kissing his cheek gently. His face shows shock but before he can react any more me and Kasey walk away.
