Wow, this is exhausting...

After another tedious day of work, you poured yourself a glass of ice water and checked the time.

9:00 PM

That's 3 hours before your birthday ends... Lay's still not home yet. Aish. You plopped down on the couch. "He probably forgot it's my birthday today because of all those schedules." You thought as you drank the glass of water.

You were about to fall asleep when your phone rang, you picked it up from the table and answered it.

"Hello, Lay?"

"Babe, you have to come here right now." He said on the other end of the line. "It's an emergency."

"What? Where are you? Did something happen?" You questioned, starting to get a little worried. What did he mean by 'an emergency'?

"I can't explain it now. Come to SM, EXO's practice room, you'll find out when you're here." He hung up immediately after finishing his sentence. Urgh...what exactly happened? You grabbed your coat and rushed out of the apartment.

Lay...where are you? Damn, this place is huge. Although you've been here a couple of times, you just can't seem to remember the layout of the building. You tried looking for the practice room by walking around the entire area since Lay didn't answer your phone calls.

As you walked down the corridor, you heard a sound. Like some kind of song played on a guitar. You followed the sound, which lead you towards a practice room. You read the sign on the top of the door, which says 'EXO'. It must be here.

The sound gets louder as you got closer and you begin to figure out what it was. That's the acoustic version of your favourite song. You looked through the glass panel, it was completely dark inside. You were sure that the song came from the room, but...how? If there's someone in there, they would've switched on some lights right? This is getting a little scary, it's pretty late now and no one else was around, but you decided to check it out anyway.

You opened the door and switched on the lights. "Excuse me? Is there someone in here?" There was no response but the song continues to play. It seemed to be coming from behind the curtain. You pushed it aside and confetti in assorted colours fell from above. You closed your eyes, startled by the confetti and when you opened them, right in front of you was a birthday cake with long candles and 'Happy Birthday' written on it in icing.

The song stopped and was replaced by a voice singing the birthday song to you. That voice. You immediately recognized it.

"Lay?" You blinked twice. Is this for real? He actually remembered your birthday, after such a long day of fully packed schedules.

"Did you think I'd forget your birthday?" He smiled, putting down his guitar. "No matter how busy I am, I'll never forget about you." He grabbed a box wrapped in colourful paper under the table and handed it to you. "Happy birthday, babe. Sorry I wasn't able to properly celebrate this day with you."

"It's alright." You made a wish and blew out the candles. "I'm happy as long as I get to see you." You hugged him. "Thanks for celebrating my birthday even after such a long day of work. You must be really tired, right?"

"I was, but not anymore." He hugged you back and planted a kiss on your lips. "After seeing you."

You could almost feel your heart melt like the candles on the cake. He's so sweet and although this celebration only lasted for a few hours, it felt like the best birthday you've ever had.
