Saturday, Summer

Kelsey's POV

"Kelsey! Get up!"

My mother woke me up. I gotta get to Sarah's so we can get ready for today! YAY! Shit. Mom.

"Kelsey! What did I say!" She said opening the door.

"Alright!" I yelled back.

"Don't talk to me like that!" She yelled and she jumped on me and started wailing on me.

She slapped me across the face a couple of times before I flipped her around. She kicked me to get me off her and I just gave up. She's my mother. I can't hit her. I ignored her, grabbed my clothes, and went into the bathroom to change. I locked the door too because you never know with her.

"Where are you hiding Kelsey?! Not for long!" She yelled knocking on the bathroom door.

I finished getting dressed. I wore a white sheer tank top, dark jean shorts, leather jacket, and high top Chuck Taylor's. I quietly opened the door and looked both ways down the hallway, making sure my mother wasn't there creeping up on me. I quickly walked out of the house before someone noticed me.

I let out a deep breath once I stepped out on the sidewalk. Today is the day. The day of the party! The first full day of summer. Hopefully, Soda and I actually kiss! Without Steve ruining it. You know I'm going to get him for that. Whatever. My mind kept thinking about Soda. I sighed. What if we don't kiss? I would be so disappointed. I don't think I'll be mentally stable. Probably Steve's fault again...

I walked up on Sarah's front porch where I could hear the music playing loudly. Theresa and Sarah were in the living room. Dean Martin was playing on the radio and Sarah was singing along while Theresa was talking to her.

"Hey, Kelsey!" Theresa greeted from the couch with a weed in between her fingers.

"How are you? Sodapop's secret lover! SSL!" Sarah laughed. Sarah knew how to push people's buttons.

"Not bad. Two-Bit's secret lover!" I said to get her back.

She blushed but she hid it by singing along again. I don't know why she listens to those guys. Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, you know! She told me she grew up listening to them.

"Y'all ready for tonight?" Theresa asked.

"I need to look nice, then I guess I'll be okay," I responded.

"I have to look decent for the sake of the human race," Sarah said.

Theresa and I giggled. She's a character alright, so dramatic. Then the song changed on the radio. Those familiar guitar strings made all of our eyes pop out of our skulls. Even though we are huge Elvis fans, we all sang The Mamas and The Papas song, California Dreamin'. We sang and danced until the song was over.

"Okay, we should probably start getting ready for tonight!" Theresa exclaimed.

"Yes we should!" I agreed.

"Ugh, do I have to wear a dress?" Sarah whined sarcastically and stared at herself in the mirror near the front door.

"Sarah. No. You don't have too," I laughed.

We all ran upstairs and started our hair and makeup. Hairspray filled the room, it could choke any normal person who uses a normal amount of hairspray. Theresa, Sarah, and I, on the other hand, use an ungodly amount of hairspray because we tease our hair to Jesus. After makeup was on, I got dressed. I wore a white crop top, jean shorts, a leather jacket, and black high top Chuck Taylors. Theresa had a pink crop top, jean shorts, leather jacket, and white Chuck Taylors. And Sarah had a black tube top on, jean shorts, and cowboy boots. We put on our finishing touches, perfume on top.
