Chapter 1

I am walking in the woods like any other day. I mean I do this all the time, it's not like I am going to get abducted! I live in the middle of nowhere; also known as Shawnee, Ohio. Some of my classmates and friends even call it nowheresville. I mean if you saw the buildings, and the size of the population, you would understand why. We only have one main market in town, and it's like a carry-out gas station. I like small town life though, I don't want to live in a humungous city, too many killings, robberies, and it's just too stressful for me. I like it quiet, and where not much goes on. This town is on a map but some of the houses in this town can't be found on a map! In fact, my house can't even be found on Google, because it's private property, and the border of our property runs into Wayne National Forest. So when someone tries to stalk me on Google, they can't because I am hidden, and nobody knows where I live besides my family, and a few of my friends that have come over for sleepovers.

The path that I am walking on is the one that my grandpa, Poppy Jack, and I use when we go mushroom or deer hunting. Hunting for a girl, is not that weird anymore by the way, I can shoot very well as a matter of fact and hit almost every tree there is, besides the deer. The wolves and the coyotes though I always seem to get, I think they are my hunting specialty. Have you seen the size of those wolves though lately? I mean I swear they are over six feet just standing on all four paws. I don't know what's in their diet, but I don't want to find out. We do ride our 4-wheelers on the ATV path that I am walking on now, but people use these trails also for races, but we still use it to get to our hunting destinations. It's kind of warm outside, and it hasn't rained, recently so when I finished walking down a hill,( that has so many roots and things for me to trip over, it's not funny) into a flat plain (when I say flat plain I mean an almost flat piece of land that has small hills, and little trees and little roots for me to trip over, Shawnee doesn't know what "Flat Plain" means) and see the fog or mist or whatever you want to call it. I am sort of freaked out. I mean you get fog from rain and cold air and warm air right? It hasn't rained in over a week, nor has the weather dropped below 70 degrees, even at night. I know it's evening now, but there still shouldn't be this stupid fog crap! You can't even hear the squirrels crawling up trees, or the deer running through the bushes any more, it's quiet, too freaking quiet for comfort. Okay breathe Mia; you have been outside when it's foggy before. But not with this thick heavy fog! It doesn't even look white, or grey, like it usually would. It looks almost black, like the color of the clouds that are coming in for the storm. I look up at the sky, and see that the black and grey clouds are moving in fast, it wasn't even supposed to rain today! (Oh well, its Ohio weather, no one can ever get it right)And this flipping fog, is just getting thicker and thicker. Why won't it go away? I am going to get stuck in these woods tonight, and my family is going to freak! I mean I am 16, I am sure I can take care of myself, but still I don't want to be out here, with no shelter, no fire, no nothing besides what my grandpa taught me while we were hunting! (Which is: #1 no other colors besides cameo and hunter's orange in the woods, depends on the hunting season. #2 if you hear a bullet nearby get to the ground without thinking. #3 Look for all the marks in the woods, that mark the land barriers, and that mark our hunting spots, it will help you get home.) Well the only one that could possibly help now is trying to find the land marks, so I know which direction to go to get home. Usually if you get to a post, that has orange or pink on the top of it, those mark where two pieces of land meets, and my house or my grandparent's house is nearby, since we live right next to each other. I honestly don't know how I am going to see anything in this stupid fog! I am starting to get a little scared because the storm clouds are coming in and I am loosing the last bit of sun that I have left. I don't even have my cell phone or anything because number one, there is no service up here; and number two, I sort of forgot it. I think the first excuse sounds better though, right? This fog is too thick, the storm is going to start soon, and I need to find shelter now!
