*Introduction*

The shades were pulled down, and the lights were off.

Dai Hutcherson was kneeling on the floor.

Yet again.

Dai had a slight disorder: She had fallen in the hands of a monster, a razor.

At the age of 11, upon the sudden death of her best friend, Ely, she had fallen on a deep depression.

Ely went to her school, she was on her homeroom, and Dai thought she was the most interesting person she had ever met. The only problem everyone seemed to see in Ely was the color of her skin; she had African black skin, which standed out in a "white community". But it only created more curiosity in Dai; the dark chocolate color of Ely's skin had roughly fascinated her; and so they became fast friends.

They had been playing at the park when it happened.

They had been friends since kindergarten, and now that they were twelve, they finally had permission to go to the park alone.

That day, Dai and Ely were playing on the swings when they heard a startling noise.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Ely strangely knew what the sound was: gunfire; and told Dai they should hide, quickly.

But they had no time. As soon as the words had left Ely's lips, another piercing bang had lingered in the air, and half a second later, Ely laid on the floor, dead.

She had been accidentally shot, it wasn't meant for her, it was only a stray bullet. Some thugs where robbing a quickymart, and they were shooting at the sky, not at people. Except for that stray one.

Dai had watched her best friend die,

and she knew she would never be the same.

Her schoolmates had made it worse, they had laughed at her, humiliated her, told her she deserved to be left alone. No one wanted to be friend of a "dead niggas friend"; they even threatened her to be next, just for being the black-skinned girls friend.

Her family hadn't been really happy with her friendship with Ely, they had been angry even, when they knew her daughter was friend to a "black girl".

So they never even bothered to see how she was coping with the loss, in fact, they felt relief that Ely was gone.

But Dai hadn't. She quickly found another friend, one that could never fail her: a razor. She began cutting, because she thought that the pain made the images of Ely's death go away; that the physical pain could override the pain she felt inside her chest.

At the age of 13, Dai's school counselor had diagnosed her with clinical depression and anxiety disorder; her family, knowing her disorders, had laughed in the schools counselor’s face:

-"How could a 13 year old be depressed?" They had said.

They didn't pay attention on Dai from that day on, in fact, they laughed at her; made cruel jokes every time they saw her sad, they even abused of her. For a twelve year old, Dai had more scars on her arms and legs than any other kid her age; and they were sadly made by herself.

So imagine how tortured and marked and mutilated her body was at the age of 17.

She didn't have friends at school, her family didn't support her.

But what she didn't know, is that another misfortune was headed her way; but maybe that misfortune would lead her into happiness once again.
