Chapter title: When worse fears become real

A week later...

"Sooooo," I spoke into the phone that was now on speaker, I was speaking to my mom for the tenth time this week. I loved the phone calls made to her. This time she called me, making it calling even when I called her five time and she called me four, now it was five. "How was your first official week on your big journey?"

"Oh it's been fabulous," she giggled. "The water is beautiful here, Lyla, I wish you can see it with your own eyes. The smell of the ocean is so calming as well, and the sunsets are prettier than what I saw on google."

"I'm glad you're having fun mom, did you find anything fascinating yet?"

"No, not yet," Her reply was quick, I could picture her shaking her head. "We just started traveling south west from Morocco where I suspect something should be. Where is Chad?"

"He is downstairs watching TV."

"I will give him a call after we are done talking. Have you been doing well in school? How are you and Roxy doing?"

"I am doing excellent, and Roxy and I are doing well. Yesterday I made her laugh so hard milk came out of her nose."

"Oh, why was she laughing so hard?"

"She was over watching TV with us and she saw something funny. It was a random occurrence."

"Roxy was always a weird person," My mom laughed softly. "You should have come with me, Lyla. It really is beautiful here," I could hear the breathless gasp of her voice, and inside I wanted to see what she was seeing. Would I be that breathless? "Maybe next time if you ever go somewhere I will come with you, mom. You're going to come back, right?"

"Of course, baby. Why not?" Her voice was filled with concern now. "Are you worried that someone will happen to me still?"

"Yes," I answered honestly.

She let out a small laugh of assurance. "I am fine, I will return in a couple of month's darling. Oh jeez your brother is beeping in, he was always an impatient person even as a boy. I'm sorry."

"It's fine, I'll get him back later for cutting our conversation short," I picked up the phone that I placed on the bed. "I will call you tomorrow afterschool, alright?"

"Alright. Be good, I love you."

"I love you too," And she sadly hung up the phone to answer my brother.

This was the routine now, every time when I came home from school she would call me or I will call her. It was a daily thing, and I enjoyed the small moment's I get to call my mom.

She seemed to be having a good time.

A week she was in contact with Chad and I, and then the next week she hasn't contacted as much. When I talked to her she seemed to be really busy and couldn't talk long, and I respected giving her a day or two without calling. After all I didn't need to call every day, right?

Another week passed, and her contacts became few.

Until she didn't contact at all.

This worried me, and when I tried to call her phone the only thing that ended up receiving was beep, beep, beep. It was annoying, and it worried me.

This worried me deeply.

Weeks seem to go by then.

By the fourth week a month has finally passed. There was no answer for a while.
