Lost-§ØÜŁ!Emily is when Jeremy strikes her, but you both try to [RESET] at the same time. It causes a small gap in the world for you two to talk with nothing going on around you.
Since Frisk/Chara/Asriel are still stronger soul beings, Emily's soul starts to increase it's HATE/DETERMINATION to break the balance.
If you kill her, you kill yourself before the while world resets. Even Emily would never know what happened... but someone else will.
If you spare her, you basically heal her soul and show her that there is hope for Jeremy and the future of the Underground's peace. You both hit the [RELOAD] button and start back to where Jeremy would've striked Emily to try again.
