"Can you hurry up? You've been trying on dresses for the past hour and a half, your slow ass is going to make us late." I huffed at Ashanti taking her precious little time. She acts like we don't have somewhere to be. This is exactly why she needs to pick out her clothes the night before. She looked at me and rolled her eyes.
"Last time I checked I only had one momma and you ain't her. Why all of a sudden you want to be on time? You know my family don't initiate anything promptly." I laughed a bit nodding my head agreeing with Ashanti's statement. Even though they were always divulged with the information ahead of time, somehow it always seemed to slip their mind.
"That's besides the point, your grandparents only have but so many anniversaries left. The least we could do is arrive when the damn thing starts." I responded in a hopeful tone that she would pick up the pace. Ashanti eyed me cautiously then shook her head disagreeing.
"No, no, no. There is more to what you're telling me. You got that look in your eyes." I rolled my eyes. "Here you go again playing my personal counselor. And I don't have 'that look' in my eyes." Ashanti kissed her teeth while grabbing her heels.
"Sanaa you can deny me all you want. I know that look, you've had that look with only one person in your lifetime." Once one more eye roll at Ashanti, I got tired of going back & forth with her and gave into asking her the question that would stop her persistency. "What look do I have in my eyes Ashanti?" She looked at me with half smile. "You've got that look of lust."
What My Daddy Doesn't Know
After Ashanti's usual inspection of my love life we finally arrived at her grandparents anniversary dinner/party. Somehow Ashanti's parents convinced them to get here without ravaging the evening for them. The banquet was very chaotic. Once we got here everyone was making last minute moves, and adding final touches to areas.
I walked over to where some family members were placing their gifts and put mine onto the table. Just as I put my gift on the table Ashanti's Uncle Jack told everyone to hide. We all followed his orders and found someplace to duck behind. Her grandparents walked in with Ashanti's parents trailing behind them. Everyone then popped out of their secluded areas and shouted "Happy 40th Anniversary!" The look on their faces were priceless. They were astonished.
I was sitting alone at a table watching her grandparents slow dance. They were the cutest elderly couple ever. I looked around until I saw Ashanti slow dancing with Roger. She claims she has no interest in him but we all know that's a complete lie. "Next tribute we have to the lovely couple is from Sanaa Richardson." Some family member of the Simmons I wasn't familiar with said through the microphone. I rose from my seat and walked towards the small stage. The music started and I began to sing 'Giving Him Something He Can Feel' by En Vogue.
While I was singing I glanced through the crowd, just taking in vibes from the song. My eyes landed on Daniel, he winked at me and smiled. I don't know why I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach. I won't work up mislead feelings again. I always tell myself that I no longer yearn for him, but then my conscious kicks in stating otherwise.
You know you still think about the precious moments you two have shared. You always wondered why the lust was never love or maybe it was love all along but you were too blinded by the passionate encounters that happened so often.
My conscious began to divulge information that only I knew was accurate. Of course I might still have some attachment to him but I won't ever let him know that. What is the point any ways? We both have moved on from each other.....
Right?
