Tomas woke up on a bright sunny day. He didn't wait for his mother to call him. He got up, got dressed and quickly headed to the kitchen. "Mama, how's father feeling today?" he asked giving her a smile. "You don't want to go to school today do you?" his mother replied "Well, I do prefer to stay here and help you." the boy replied "Well you aren't going to school, so no need to kiss up. Here, I have another list for you. But please, take the main road. I don't need you to get lost in the forest again." she replied Tomas ate his breakfast quickly, went out fed the farm animals then hopped on his bike to run his errands.
"Mother doesn't need to know. But, I going to run through this list fast. Then I have enough time to go search for the fairy." he thought as he went straight to the tailor, where he picked up his father's new work shirt. Then to the market. Then to the fruit stand, and finally to the post office to pick up the families weekly mail.
Meanwhile, Mark was also up bright and early. He went to the bathroom did his business then he headed to his office. He unlocked the door, "There you are, still sleeping or maybe dead? Doesn't matter, I get paid either way." he whispered as he picked up the jar and admired his findings.
"Well buddy, I have a friend in the next town that collects weird looking creatures. You look like a tiny man, with wings, you can't get any weirder than that," he muttered as he took out his saddlebag and softly placed the jar inside. "We're going on a long trip, but when I return, I have so much money it'll be worth it. Sorry, but, that the way life goes. Anyway if you are dead, you won't feel any experiments they make on you." he whispered as he walked out of his office with his saddlebag over his shoulder and headed to the kitchen.
"Good morning honey," he said as he sat down to eat. "You seem in a good mood. What are you up to?" Tara asked "I don't want to ruin the surprise. I'll tell you all about when I get back." replied Mark as he ate his breakfast.
Then Thin woke up, got dressed and ready and quickly ran down the hall straight to his father office. He noticed the door opened from afar, "Man, I'm too late. Wait, maybe he's still here." he muttered Then Thin quickly ran to the kitchen, almost tripping as he enters. "Boy, stop the running in the house. You almost fell over the table." said his mother "Sorry mom. Dad, can I see?" he asked "Shut up boy. Not know. Eat your breakfast." he replied giving him a very dirty stare. Thin knew that stare, so he began to eat without saying a word.
"Dad looks very angry with me. I think it's time for me to shut up." he thought to himself as he ate his breakfast. "Honey, I'll be home by five today. Thin, move it, I need to drop you off at school," said Mark as he got up to leave, gave his wife a kiss and out the door, he went.
Thin finished his food quickly and ran right behind his father, "Bye mom," he said as he ran out of the house. "Thin make sure you come right home from school." his mother said as she waves goodbye.
"So, dad, may I talk now?" he said as he sat back in the truck. "Why are you such a noisy kid?" he replied as he drove off. "I'm your son what do you expect?" Thin replied Mark smacked him over the head, "Look, I found something that will make us rich." he said as he pulled the truck over and parked. He reached into his saddlebag and took the jar out. "You see this?" said Mark as he shows the jar to his son. "Wow, dad, what is it? Is it alive or is it sleeping?" replied the young boy whose heart was beating ripply in excitement. "Well, so I think its a water fairy, I'm not sure though. Since I capture him, he hasn't moved at all. I think I might have hurt him when I quickly close the lid." Mark explained, "Can I hold it?"Thin said as he reaches out for the jar.
"Sure but don't you drop it, I don't' want it to get hurt if it is alive," said Mark as he pulled off and continued on his way to his friend's house. "So, dad what do you plan to do with the little man?" asked Thin as he stared into the jar, and noticed when Lukie gave him a wink.
"Well, once I drop you off at school. I'm going to the next town. I have a friend that his family owns a circus. They pay lots of money for weird things like this." explained to his father as he pulled up in front of the school. "Why?" asked Thin "Why what?" replied his father "Well will you sell him? Don't you think that's wrong? He's a living creature, not an item to sell." said Thin with an upset look. "That's just how it has to been son. If you want to make it in this world, something that we do to survive isn't pleasant. Now go on this is your stop." said Mark as he opened the truck door. "I think you're wrong. You need to let him go, that's what you need to do." said Thin as he stepped out of the car and slammed the door, without saying goodbye he walked away.
"Be angry, once I sell him, I'll buy you a toy and your smile will return to your face. Let me go get paid," he muttered as he drove off heading to the next town ten miles away.
