Lost at Sea
Chapter 13
Her Memories

Maria allowed Alene to leave the cell as she went to turn on the television. "There's food in the fridge. You can have whatever you want." She told her.

Alene thanked the woman as she walked to the fridge. A gasp of amazement left her lips when she discovered the stash of food concealed inside the high-tech fridge. "I've found food Heaven,"

There was so much food she didn't know what to grab. She stayed clear of the labeled boxes of food. She took out a loaf of bread and a jar of grape jelly and set them on the counter. She found a jar of peanut butter in the pantry and a butter knife from one of the pull-out drawers.

As she started to spread the grape jelly onto a bread slice, Alene heard Maria mumble, "Oh my God," from where she was seated on the couch. Curiously, she turned to watch the news report as she continued to prepare her sandwich.

"In Johannesburg, South Africa yesterday, hundreds of lives were lost and hundreds of people were hospitalized when the Hulk and Iron Man clashed in the middle of the city." A video of the fight flashed onto the screen as the reporter continued talking. "Infintrusure damages have been estimated to be over a billion dollars. The Stark Relief Foundation is on sight and is aiding in the cleanup process."

Alene cleared her throat. "I'm going back into the cell," She softly announced. Maria didn't glance her way when she walked by with her plate. Once inside, she sat down on the cot and ate her sandwich in silence. Her thoughts were consumed with the information she had heard. Without a doubt, Alene knew Wanda was behind it. The ruby-red glow dancing in the Hulk's eyes was more than enough evidence.

She knew whatever Wanda and Pietro had done in Johannesburg wasn't good, and that thought terrified her. She hardly had any idea of what was going on with her family on the other side of the world. Her visions only told her so much.

Alene looked back to the television. A panel was talking about the call for Dr. Banner's arrest by the South African people. In her mind's eye, she saw a bloodied and bruised Banner being apprehended by New York City Police. Iron Man and the fiery redhead tried to stop them, but they were being held back by Steve and the one Pietro had referred to as the old man.

He doesn't look that old, she thought before blinking the vision away. Now they were showing videos of the destruction and chaos left in the fight's aftermath. She saw a video crying over a man's body as she screamed for help. Right away, Alene tore her gaze away from the television, but memories were already forcing themselves to the forefront of her mind.

She was escorted past the iron doors by two soldiers who painfully held her up by her armpits. She was thrown to the ground in front of the doctor. "How kind of you to join us, miss Vorkognitiv," The glare to shot Dr. List could easily kill somebody. "Oh, trying to be tough?" He laughed as he kicked her in the side.

She spit out some blood before she shot a pleading look to the soldiers who were guarding the door, but unsurprisingly none of them spared her a glance.

Once again, she was picked up from her arm and dragged to a cell. Inside was a disheveled man bound to the wall by heavy chains. "Since the Avengers have a Hulk, we've been working on our very own." Dr. List smirked. He ordered the man to be let out of the cell and placed on an operating table. "In case you have been wondering why you are here," He said as he knelt down to her level. "Your job is to make sure no harm is done to me in the chance the test subject goes haywire. Do you understand, miss Vorkognitiv?" Reluctantly, she nodded her head. She knew what her limits were.

She watched as another doctor injected the man with a fluid. As soon as it entered his veins, the man's eyes snapped open, now glowing an ominous blue. What happened to the man is indescribable. He went on a rampage so violent that section of the base collapsed. The only survivors being herself and Dr. List, thanks to her force shield.

Alene came back to the present when Maria answered a call. "For now, I'd stay in stealth mode," She told the person on the other line. "Stay far away from here. Until we find Ultron, I don't have much to offer."

Ultron. Flashes of fire and a robotic voice rang out in Alene's head. She groaned out in pain as she cradled her head in her hands.

"Alene?" Maria's worried voice called out. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah," She called back. "I just stubbed my toe."

"Ouch," She heard Maria's retreating footsteps echo off the walls of the tower. Alene released a breath she didn't know she was holding. She laid down on the cot and stared at the ceiling. As she thought back to her vision from a few days ago, a sinking feeling settled in her stomach.

An odd thought popped up. After she was taken into custody, Wanda and Pietro teamed up with him. That explained why they were in Johannesburg, the same place Ultron was last spotted.

     It all clicked together.

It made sense now why Wanda manipulated the Hulk. It made sense why they teamed up with Ultron. They wanted revenge.

During their time at the base, the two only mentioned their past once or twice. They told her they wanted revenge against Tony Stark for killing their parents and the opportunity came to them in the experiments. Now, they wanted revenge against all the Avengers for taking her.

Alene felt like screaming. The Avengers was so stupid to confront Ultron and Wanda and Pietro. Now she knew what they had sacrificed during the confrontation.
