*pops out from Writing Depth*
Oh, hey! Wassup readers.
I'm back!!!!! I never expected to come back to this story and update it yet here we are. I saw this post on Tumblr asking questions for authors to answer about their stories. Since this is my only completed one at the moment, I chose this one. ;)
Now, I'm going to be answering these questions in as much detail as possible to let y'all have an insight into my creative mind. I hope you enjoy!
1. What inspired you to write the fic?
I was inspired to write Lost at Sea after reading the amazing @sorceress-supreme 's Miss America series. I really recommend you check it out if you haven't already! Before then, I've had ideas swimming in my head and notebook for a story surrounding a girl with time powers/magic. With the motivation from my sister and friends, I got to work!
2. What scene did you first put down?
The scene in the very first chapter with Mariana, Steve, and Emily in Italy in Mariana's bedroom. I've always pictured that scene was a happy golden time of a small family enjoying time together. My parents told me at the beginning of my Lost at Sea journey that one of their fondest memories of being new parents was tucking my sister and me into bed and kissing us goodnight. The singing idea came to my mom and I's bonding through singing songs together throughout my life. That song is my favorite song we've ever sung in Choir. Love it.
3. What's your favorite line of narration?
Lost at Sea is told in a 3rd person unlimited POV so this is hard xD. I really don't know, but I guarantee as soon as I publish this I'll think of one.
4. What's your favorite line of dialogue?
I don't have a single one, but I do love Mariana's snarkiness. Trust me, she gets it from her Aunt and Mom xD. This one is up there at the top;
"Oh my gosh! There's a Baskin Robins! CLINT WE GOTTA GET SOME LATER!"
Lol. Don't know where this came from, but I love it. I've actually never had Baskin Robins ice cream before so I can't judge if it's good or not, but I'm sure it is.
5. What part was the hardest to write?
Pietro's death scene, for sure. I had written it a couple of months before I actually wrote the rest of the chapter. In a way, everything was leading to that point. From the very beginning, I planned to have Mariana there to witness her brother's death. That moment shapes her into who she is in the future. If you recall, there is a moment where Pietro tells Wanda that they will tell then Alene who she is together. You see, I purposely put that there. I wrote that line right after I finished writing Pietro's death. Yes, his death happens in the movie, but I could've erased that from happening and kept him alive. You never know. I've seen people do that before in other fics. It's capable.
I'm also really connected to that scene because I plan, visualize, act out, and legit run through everything in my mind while I write. For those months between when I wrote it and actually published it, I kept going back and rereading it, adding things, rearranging words, and sentences, etc. I wanted it to be perfect and I am quite satisfied with it. I can actually hear Mariana's voice in my head. She's like a little bubble in my mind, haha. But when I go back and read that scene, I hear everything she says, including her ear-piercing screams and I also feel all the emotions she feels. I have that connection with my characters, but I believe all writers do in a way.
If you know me in real life or are a follower of my work, you know that I interpret my own emotions, past and present, in my stories in great detail. I'm not good at writing emotions that I haven't experienced before, like extreme love for a significant other or bliss. On the other hand, I believe that I am good at expressing emotions that I have experienced before in my writing. Of course, that's my personal opinion. You decide for yourself.
6. What makes this fic special or different from all your others?
It's different because it's my only completed one here on Wattpad xD. Plus, it's my favorite but don't tell the others that.
7. Where did the title come from? Lost at Sea
It came from how Emily died and how Mariana disappeared. They were legit, lost at sea. Haha
8. Did any real events people or events inspire any part of it?
Absolutely. Again, I include all of my emotions, past or present, in all of my works, fanfiction or not. It's my style of writing. I also base all of my original characters off of people in my real life. Mariana, to be honest, is my favorite character I've written because she is the person I am in my creative mind. She's goofy, snarky, a badass, rebellious, independent, etc etc. I can go on about her. She's my baby xD.
My favorite characteristic of her is that she doesn't give a crap what others think. She's her own person and she doesn't need a lover or anyone to bring her affection. Fun fact, her name Mariana Elizabeth comes from the name I'll name my firstborn daughter if I have one.
If you also know me, then you know that in every single piece of my writing, I reference a girl I knew. She shows up in every single one of my stories in some way, shape, or form. It could range from a name, birthday, or character description. I'll let you guys piece the puzzle together for that one.
9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
No, but there are for the next one.
10. What do you like best about this story?
It's message ;D.
11. What do you like least about this fic?
Chapter 5 xD
12. Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
Do not, no matter what, take anything or anyone for granted. That was the moral of this story. That sadly has been the biggest life lesson I've learned and I did not learn it in the best of ways. I want others to learn that so they don't have to in the way I did. :)
