Lost At Sea

Chapter 16

Calm Before the Storm

"Hey, Clint!" Alene greeted as she, Steve, Pietro, and Wanda boarded the quinjet.

"Alene," He looked relieved to see her. He jumped up from his chair and tackled her in a giant hug. "Are you okay?" He asked her.

"I'm fine," She nodded her head. "Where's Natasha?" She scanned the room for the redhead.

Clint shook his head. "I have no idea, but we'll find her." He noticed the other two teens. "What the hell are they doing here?" He asked Steve.

"It's okay, Clint," It was Alene who answered him. "They're on our side now. They're trustworthy." She tried to tell him but he was having none of it.

"Just because they have you and Cap's trust, doesn't mean they have mine." He looked at them. "I'm watching you two." He pointed at them. "The second you step out of line, you will be dead. All it takes is one shot." With that said, Clint turned around and went back to the cockpit.

"He's normally not like this." Alene tried to reassure Pietro and Wanda. "He'll see you guys mean no harm in no time."

Clint stormed off to who knows where as soon as the quinjet safely landed. Alene wanted to follow him to explain what had happened and hopefully get him to understand why Wanda and Pietro were there, but Steve stopped her in her tracks by a firm hand on her shoulder.

"Let him think this through, Alene," He told her. "He will come around sooner or later." She nodded her head in understanding.

"Alene," She turned to Pietro. "Why do you care so much about what they think about us?"

"Because I care about you guys," She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion at his question. Wasn't the answer obvious, she wondered. "I want the world to see you guys the way I do." She said. "You're not bad people. You're good people with hearts of gold."

Wanda smiled at her. "Alene, not everybody will like us. That isn't how the world works." Alene tried to speak again, but she shushed her. "It may be hard for you to understand, but not everybody likes everybody. There will be people who won't like you and people you won't like. That's just how society works."

"Wanda is right," Pietro said. "Trying to get everybody to like everyone is a waste of time. It is impossible, so stop worrying your pretty head about it." He placed a loving kiss on her forehead.

Alene was about to respond with a sassy retort, but the words died in her throat when a vision appeared in her minds-eye. Wanda and Pietro saw the magenta glow in her eyes and were quickly on edge.

Steve hurried over to them. "Is she having a vision?" He asked.

"Yep," Pietro answered him as Wanda raised a hand up to Alene's forehead. Before she could look into her mind, however, she snapped out of the vision.

Alene gasped as she came too. She started to collapse to the floor, but Pietro steadied her on her feet. "I'm okay," She managed to rasp out. "I just need to catch my breath." She sucked in mouthfuls of oxygen as she calmed her racing heart and roaring mind.
