The studio session went well. His hands plucked away at the strings of his guitar with ease and the song felt so perfect. Normally studio sessions left Niall feeling like bashing his head against the wall, drained of creativity, but this time Niall actually felt sad when his slot in the studio was up. Nevertheless, he still had his date with Braith to look forward to.

Braith. Niall liked the name Braith, it felt warm and familiar, although he felt a nagging voice whisper at the back of his mind saying 'it's not Liam though.'

A bell chimed as Niall opened the door to the café, it was then that Niall realised this was the first café he had been in since the incident. To be fair Niall had barely left the house, he was scared that if he opened the windows too much, the last bit of Liam would waft away.

Niall scanned the room for Braith, when his eyes finally landed on a girl who looked familiar. Her hair had been weaved into a loose plait, leaving strands of her hair framing the sides of her face. She was wearing the same rectangular glasses, fuschia lipstick, a green blanket scarf and a trench coat. Braith smiled nervously at him as he walked over.

"Hi, I'm Braith."

"Hullo Braith, I'm Niall."

The introduction was pretty unnecessary considering they'd been chatting online for quite a bit, but to Niall it would feel even weirder to not introduce yourself that way. Niall ordered a black coffee, feeling unable to keep down anything rich.

Braith took a tentative sip from her lip before looking up at Niall again. "How are you?" She asked quietly. Niall instinctively plastered on a fake smile, "I'm great, yourself?

Braith put down her coffee. " I'm ok, how are you really Niall?" She asked, louder this time. Niall took in a sharp intake of breath and rubbed his chin.

"Honestly, shite. " He said gruffly, "Sorry." He added, as if he'd just remembered who he was talking to. Braith smiled and shook her head.

"Feelings matter, if you feel like crap no one blames you. " She said carefully. Braith stroked Niall's hand with her knuckles, before flinching away, as if she'd touched fire. But Niall shakily took Braith's hand in his.

Niall missed intimacy. His family and the boys were all there for him, but this was different. "I'm turning a new page- heck I'm rewriting the story."

Braith squeezed Niall's hand reassuringly. "Here's to turning a new leaf." She said, echoing Niall. She giggled and Niall felt a laugh escape his lips too. A bubble of joy that erupted through his body, leaving him guffawing. It felt good.

A/N: HIIIII ok so I know I basically abandoned this fanfic for over a year, but um hi I'm back for a lil bit.  Part of the problem was that I screwed up one of the chapters, and I didn't know how to fix it, so I just left it. I also have school, and last year I had my GCSEs, and aaack A levels are hard. I am still prioritising my schoolwork, because I can't really hand this in with my personal statement, but I'm glad to be back for now.

What do you think of Braith? Ship it?
