Niall rubbed his eyes before checking the time on his phone for what felt like the millionth time that night- midnight. Recently he had been finding it easier to sleep, but tonight he could only think of the rustling duvet- as loud as an ocean. Niall fancied that the duvet was the ocean, and he was floating through the depths of the sea.
BANG!
Niall flinched, his eyes snapping open. What was that? An intruder? He got out of bed and crouched by the door, trying to listen through the crack at the bottom.
"Fucks' sake Zayn, could you just shut the door like a normal person next time? It sounded like a bloody elephant had fallen through the roof." Groaned a disgruntled Harry. Zayn grumbled something incoherently, and Niall heard his heavy footsteps plod upstairs. Another door slammed, earning a "Jesus" from Louis.
Niall bit his lip anxiously, before tiptoeing back to bed. He had been so lost in grief that he had shut out the others and their lives, heck, he felt like he did not even know them anymore.
As Niall pulled his duvet back over his chest, he sighed. Maybe life had always been crap, but with Liam there, Niall had just been blind to it.

The gentle rays of sunrise started to seep through the curtains, bathing the room in a golden glow. Today Niall's single would be released, and he'd perform it on the Graham Norton show.
Niall had a shower, got dressed, shaved and headed downstairs to have a quick breakfast before leaving. Zayn was at the kitchen table, staring out of the window. It was a hard, cold stare. Niall shivered before popping some bread in the toaster and putting the kettle on.
"Do you want a tea or coffee Zayn?" He asked. Zayn turned his head to face Niall and gave him a death glare.
"Ok, guess I'll just be making the one then." Said Niall awkwardly, opening the cupboard and grabbing the coffee. Zayn said nothing, turning his head back to the window.
Niall walked back over to the toaster. The toast was burnt.
A/N: Bit of a filler chapter, but how is everyone? Also this fanfic is really behind in terms of what's happening in all their lives, but it's a fanfic so hey ho.
