"Taylor," I whispered while gently nudging her arm, "Taylor wake up."
She slowly opened her eyes, stretched, and then said, "Why do you have to wake people up so early in the morning?"
"You know that I'm a morning person and your parents just called me," I told her.
"Well the next time I’m in the hospital and sleeping can you let me wake up on my own." she said annoyingly,” So what did they say?"
At first I didn't hear what she said because I was lost in her beautiful light brown hair with almost unnoticeable blond streaks, her blue eyes, and her perfect personality. She’s just a naturally nice and easy-going person. We have been best friends since I moved here from Salem, Oregon 10 years ago. We were both six when we first met in kindergarten. My first day of school in California was on my birthday, August 28, and it was her birthday too. The teacher introduced us to each other because we had the same birthday, and we have been practically inseparable since then.
I have always loved her, but she doesn't know. I could tell that she was upset about something by the way she was talking and acting when she woke up. But I didn't want to ask because I was upset too. I thought that I was going to lose her yesterday. I heard the doctors talking after Mr. Hunter left the hospital. They said they thought she has a brain tumor, but couldn't run any test until her parents arrived. I don't know what to think other than she will be okay and the doctors are wrong! When I came back to reality I said, “They are stuck in Salt Lake City because the plane they were on was grounded because of the bad weather. They have to wait until the snow calms down."
"Okay," Taylor replied.
It’s November, only the beginning of winter and there's a blizzard in most of the Midwest. Everyone here is afraid that we will have a bad winter too, but all we have had is extreme rain. So, who knows what will happen!
"Don't you think this weather is crazy," she said trying to make conversation?
"Yeah," I mumbled.
"When do you think my parents will be here? Can you call them again? I want to talk to them," she said anxiously.
"Ok, ok, I'll call them" I told her. I pulled out my phone since hers is at her house where she forgot it yesterday morning, and dialed her parent’s number.
The phone rang a few times then her mom said, "Hello."
I said, "Hi, Tay's awake and she wants to talk to you! Here she is!" Then I handed the phone to Taylor.
I left the room while they were on the phone to get a coffee and some breakfast. When I came back she was off the phone and looking at some book I have never seen before. Weird. The second she saw me she closed the book immediately.
"So what did you have for breakfast," she said.
"A muffin and coffee," I revealed. "What did your mom say?"
“That the snow slowed down a lot, and they were getting ready to get on the plane.
"So they will be home soon."
"Yeah, they will be here soon."
"You know I care about you a lot, right," I said concerned.
"Yes I know, and I care about you too," Taylor said.
She just doesn’t know how much I care for her. I asked nervously, "So can you tell me what happened?"
"Umm..."
"PLEASE!"
“I got an excruciating pain throughout my body, but mostly my head. I ran outside, and started screaming because the pain was unbearable! I passed out after that, the next thing I know is that Mr. Hunter and you knelling next to me, not being able to hear what you were saying and then waking up in the hospital."
There was a silence then I said “I’m sorry." I knew that she wasn’t telling me the whole truth though.
Before she could say anything else her parents ran through the door and gave her a hug. They must have been closer than we thought. I mouthed " I'm gonna go now." She nodded and I went home.
