Taylor
I was released from the hospital Sunday night. Two days after it happened. They found nothing wrong with me, so they let me go home. But the doctors don't want me to go back to school for a few more days. I was the only one who knew I was completely fine. I thought of the book. Am I adopted? I found the book that materialized in front of me that night and read the cover over, and over again. The Benet’s Family Spell Book is the book title. Benet is not my last name; it is Sanders, Taylor Sanders. Just by what I have gone through the last couple of days, all the changes that have happened, all the pain that I have suffered, I know what I am… I am… I am a—witch! I’m a little nervous to look in the book again, so I shake the book first to see if anything will fall out. I want something to fall out; something from the family I have never met before; about my real parents that I have apparently never met. At that moment, an envelope drops into my lap. The envelope is the color of cream and on the outside of it in really pretty handwriting says, “To Taylor. “ I didn't open it because at first because I am afraid of what might be written inside. I need to open it though because I need to know more about myself, so I hope it’s from one of my real parents.
I open the envelope and pull out the letter. It is written in a black pen. It has the same handwriting as the envelope, and inside reads:
April 25, 2011
Dear Taylor,
My name is Kassie Annabelle Benet, and I’m your birth mother. If you’re reading this then you have gone through the change. Usually around the age of sixteen wizards or witches get their powers. The family spell-book duplicates leaving inside many spells, room to create your own spells, many different kinds of potions, family history, different types of herbs and how they can be used, and how many of the mythical creatures function. You need to know that I love you with all my heart, and that when you were born I was nineteen years old. Also that there was a war between many mythical creatures and I thought it was best for you if I had someone adopt you. Many people were fighting in this war, and the humans did not know it was taking place. There were two sides to the war, the side that wanted peace and wanted to keep the world the way it was. This was the side that I was on. The other side was those who wanted to destroy the world, rule everything, and wanted to destroy all of the humans. I am on the noble side, and even though there were not a lot of witches, werewolves, vampires, etc. on our side we still won. The war between mythical creatures has been over now for 10 years, but there are still some groups resisting because they think they are the superior ones who should rule the world. So you need to watch your back! You can’t trust everyone. The people who adopted you have no idea of what you are, and I wouldn't tell them. Although, when I was your age I told my best friend, and she turned out to be a witch too. You got to understand that there are so many people around you that are not just human. Once I found out that I was a witch, I could spot out who was human and who was a mythical creature. There is so much more I want to tell you, and I hope to tell it to you someday! I love you my daughter.
Love,
KAB
I started to cry after I read this.
After I couldn't cry anymore I opened the book again. The book looked like it wasn't opened before except for in the hospital. In the letter it said the book duplicated, so when it does it must make the book actually new; unopened. I flipped through the pages. It had to have at least 1, OOO pages. There is a table of contents that is well organized.
I want to try a spell, so I looked at the table of contents and found the part that said spells. I went to that page and looked at the first spell at the top of the page. It is how to make something levitate. I thought of the glass of water on my desk. Then, I closed my eyes and said out loud, “object, object, as light as air..." a few times. Nothing happened!? I looked down at the book again and it said “This spell can also be performed by snapping your finger at an object and showing it where to go to." I looked at a glass of water that was sitting on the other side of the room, and snapped my fingers at it. After that, I pointed my finger at my bedside table. The cup then rose and moved across the room and gently places itself on the table. WOW, I'm really a witch... I'm really a witch.
I wondered why the spell didn't work the first time. I looked at the page in the book again and read the fine print at the very bottom. In tiny letters it said, “Only when you and your partner have united is when this spell is at its most powerful, and is when you say the spell out loud."
I have no idea of what that means, and I don't care right now because I've had a super long night and want to go bed! It felt like the second I laid my head on my pillow I fell asleep.
