New York

A dream from late last year.

I was in New York visiting a friend who was equally unfamiliar to me. I remember looking out from my bedroom window there and catching glimpses of a few Italians and hence I presume that I was in the part of New York where Italians were common. While I was there, my ex came to see my friend, who it turns out was a mutual friend of ours. She came to go to some sort of event or something of the like with him. She was quite icy towards me and altogether ignored me. Based on how it all played out, it's quite safe to assume that our friend was ignorant of 'us' and it was of no concern to him how she dealt with me.

She went with him to the event while I was left home alone in New York. The following events are a little murky but it seems after she returned, I tried to talk to her while she still remained distant. She was tearing up after my repeated trying and after some time, lashed out at me while crying. I distinctly remember saying 'you are the light of my life', I held her close to me and kissed her passionately. It seems as though all of this happened quite late in our lives, she didn't have any make up on, appeared tired and dull. She remarked that I was unrecognisable, I thought so too.

After reconciliation, she took my hand and ran outside. There was a deepish, long canal empty of water outside, she took me there and ran through it. We were both barefoot and there was a familiar song in the air. The canal was filled with sharp objects such as tiny stakes, broken glass and sharp pencil points. I tried to avoid them but towards the end I had to step through them. However, I felt no pain and nor did she according to her broad smile. When we finished, we were both exhausted but happy. I could see my toe bone protruding outside but she was unhurt, in body and spirit. She saw my foot and said either 'it's alright' or 'it'll be alright' or 'you'll get used to it'. We were still holding hands.
