May it Be was released 15 years ago and it still is quite relevant. I myself have struggled with depression and thinking I was unlovable and it would be hard to think that somehow I could overcome this chapter of darkness. I would listen to music and read lighthearted literature to lift my mood. Since then I have overcome this struggle with the help of therapy and some meds. My family, friends, and my coping mechanisms helped me quite a bit. They told me how much I was loved and that I mattered a lot to them. I listened to one particular song "Michael in the Bathroom" by Joe Iconis, which is featured in the musical Be More Chill. I got some console from this song because it is about a teenager all alone in a bathroom a party, where his friend has abandoned him. It is not the most positive song but It helped me by knowing I was not alone. That piece is quite similar to May it Be in the way that it gave hope to me and others. When we performed May it Be, I saw some tears in my parents' eyes. I was smiling and they could see I have gotten better. All through the power of music. This piece when you hear it connects you with others and I'm sure people who are nerds of the LOTR realm and are also quite passionate about music are, connected through this piece. This song gives hope and calm, which our society today, desperately needs. I think the military general should listen to some calming music before they make any rash button pushing decisions.
