I listened to the original recording of the song. It is quiet and peaceful. The solidarity of the one singer adds a certain vulnerability to the music that was not quite portrayed in our version. Our version was soft with some powerful tones gracefully weaving through the piece. I decidedly like ours best. The last concert was the second public time our chorus group has done this song. We had a different sound this time because a giant number of our bass and tenor sections have graduated in the past few years. We still have a good fenor section because the girls and two boys try so very hard. Our choral arrangement is made up of mostly higher voices, even though most of our girls (including myself) have pretty large ranges. We gave a wonderful performance and it was a great tribute to the original meaning and rendering of the song.
