Alice's POV:
Monday at school, Karina and I had met up at the bleachers. She seemed a bit nervous. She played with her hair and looked around as if she did not want to be seen.
"You okay?" I ask.
"Yeah I guess." she flashed a quick smile.
She fiddled her thumbs on her lap. I placed my hand on hers to calm her.
"It will all be fine." I nodded at her.
I saw Matt at a distance, he was walking towards us.
"He's cute." Karina looked at me and nudged her elbow to me. "He's a really good friend." I reminded her. I pulled out another cigarette and lit it.
"Hey Karina! How ya been?" Matt said hugging her and then hugging me. "Fine" She smiled.
We talked until the bell rang. First period came and Joseph was late to school. He ran into the classroom and took the empty desk next to mine.
"Hungover or what?" I joked. "No, I just woke up late."
He laughed. He seemed kind of jittery. "Did Karina come to school today?" "Um yeah." I nodded. "I was thinking of asking her out." He smiled. "Really?" He looked confused.
Oops, it slipped.
"Umm...I mean like you don't think it will mess your friendship or something?" Nice save. He shook his head. "I have a feeling she might feel the same way." I looked down at my lap. "Oh well good luck." "Thanks." He smiled.
I am a bit upset. He's known me since we were like ten. Why has he never asked me out? No, I need to shut up. I'm being selfish. I just have to forget about Joe. He likes Karina.
My breaths got deeper as I thought more about it.
At lunch we got our food and went to the bleachers of course. We were talking when Joe asked Karina if they could talk in private. She looked at me and smiled nervously. I smiled and they went down on the field. They were still in our sight.
"What's that all about?" Matt asked. "Were are gonna be the the only single ones in this group from now on." I shrugged. "You okay?" He asked concerned. "Yeah I mean it's not like Joe ever wanted me." I said. "He's happy with her, and I'm trying to be happy with with their decision." Matt didn't say anything. He just nodded. I pulled out my second cigarette of the day.
I saw Karina and Joe smiling and laughing. Then he kissed her and she kissed back. "At least their feelings are mutual." I said. Matt rubbed my back. "Don't do that to yourself, Alice."
