Chapter 22:
Ashton's POV:
"Why haven't they made it back yet?!" I shout, pushing over another table. Paxton winces as it hits the ground, causing a loud crash.
"They should be back any minute now, so calm yourself." Scolds Henri. I sigh and run my hands through my hair.
"I don't get why she would do this when I specifically told her not to!" I shout, not really to anyone in particular.
"Well, you were being an idiot. She is super insecure and shy, and you of all people should know it!" Paxton snaps, running his hands over his face in a tired manner.
"She seemed perfectly fine getting all buddy buddy with the girls. I would not call her behavior around other people here to be shy." I reply bitterly.
"You really are blind aren't you!" Paxton continues to defend her, "Can you not see how extremely uncomfortable she is? Sure, she likes her friends, but she is not a social person! Being your mate makes it worse! Everyone wants to be friends with Ashton's girl!"
"Oh cut the crap! She's just as much of one of them as any, and you know it! How else would they know where we are!" I retort, not really believing what I say.
"If that's what you truly believe than you really are the biggest idiot to every walk the earth. Can you not see the way she looks at you? The look in her eyes when you throw insults at her, when you tear her down? She depends on you, and you push her away!" Pax yells. Henri sighs and shifts in his chair.
"Why do you defend her so much? Couldn't find a mate of your own so you have to pick on mine, huh?" I spit.
"You know it's not like that." He says in a low voice.
"So what? Who does she go to when she is upset? Not me. You." I reply.
"Why do you think that is? Hmmm? Most of the time you are the jerk causing her to be upset, why would she come to you?!" He snaps. I sigh and run my hands over my face.
"I don't want to pull her into my mess of a life." I state plainly.
"You already have. Now you have to chose if you will go through it together or if you are going to continue to push her away until she drowns in it all?" He confronts. I sigh and shake my head.
"I can't lose her." I say.
"I know." Pax says, patting me on the back.
"Good, now that that's over, I can inform you that they arrived about two minutes ago." Henri says with a smirk.
"They're here?" I ask. He nods, and it's all it takes for me to go sprinting out of the room, Paxton following close behind.
"Rosie?" I shout as I push through the crowd of people surrounding the group.
"Hey, watch it!" Some kid shouts when I accidentally shove him over.
"So-Sorry," I say before shouting again, "Rose?" I continue to push my way into the middle of the group where Jessica stands with the other members of the team, looking solemn.
"Ashton-" she starts to say before I cut her off,
"No! Where is she?" I demand.
"She and Alice never made it out of the Veralti camp. One of them blew the horn, but we didn't make it on time, she wasn't there." She says gently.
