Still I Find You

A knock on my door forced me to bring myself into reality. I dragged my sleepless body to the door and swung it open, grumbling my complaints.

"Breakfast?" Kyung Soo stared at me hard.

"What?" I asked, running a hand through my messy hair.

"And you're not ready for work. Great." He rolled his eyes.

I opened the door all the way in, silently inviting him in my house. Without asking, Kyung Soo sat down on my coach, examining how I rearranged the home he gave. I sat down next to him, rubbing my eyes.

Whatever nightmares flowed in my brain last night came back, scaring me at 3 am in the morning. And ever since that dark past arose again, I couldn't sleep, trying to forget about my childhood and move on.

It was time to move on. Thinking about the past wasn't healthy, for my workplace or for my friends. If I tied myself down to the demons, they would gladly eat me up without a second doubt.

"You should get ready." Kyung Soo whispered, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, I'm so late to work," I mumbled, rising from the couch.

"Hey, you look drained. I can excuse you today. But what you need is an easy work day and a huge breakfast bought from me."

I chuckled bitterly but did what Kyung Soo said. I waltzed into my cold bathroom lazily and stared my reflection down, shocked to see how much the night had affected me. My hair was a bird's nest, and the purple-black eyebags burned my pale skin.

I only washed my face and prepared to get ready. I moaned, thinking about the dreadful work day.

"Can I wear a sweatshirt today?" I screamed, hoping Kyung Soo would say yes.

"I'll fire you." He curtly responded.

I rolled my eyes and gripped the first clothes I touched. Slipping on a black romper and a grey knitted cardigan, I slipped on a pair of black wedges and forced a bohemian black hat on my hair. I stuffed a billion essential items in a small black purse and sat down, prepared to do my makeup.

"Take your sweet time, won't you?" Kyung Soo complained.

"I will, thanks. Why don't you just play a four-hour movie and make yourself comfortable?" My voice dripped with sarcasm.

Keeping it light and simple, I only applied the minimal "5-minute makeup tutorial' I learned from YouTube a while ago. I stepped out of my bedroom and saw Kyung Soo on his phone, probably scrolling through business emails.

I quietly peeled off my heels and pounced on him, seeing him flinch in surprise. I backed away when I saw what he was looking for his phone- best breakfast restaurants.

"Wait, so you didn't have an idea of where to eat breakfast?" I tried to hide my laugh.

"Now that you said that, we're eating in the office." He glared.

I picked up my heels and put them on. Kyung Soo led me to his car and we silently drove to the company. I closed my eyes in relaxation, loving the sun warming up my bare legs.

"I need to make a company rule on clothing items," I heard Kyung Soo mumble.

"Well, you men need to stop staring at us like that then!" I fought back, hiding my legs.
