"Aiko!"
I smiled as I walked through the door, making my way over to Mary who was standing by my desk. Mary was one of my closest friends from Hyakkaou Private Academy despite the fact that we had almost complete opposite personalities. Mary was loud and outgoing whilst I tended to be a lot more quiet and observant. The second I got close enough to her, I tugged at the end of one of her blonde ponytails, causing Mary to swat my hand away in annoyance. A light giggle escaped my lips as I sat down, Mary leaning back onto my desk.
"You need to dye your hair again." She said and I sighed, playing with a strand that had fallen from my ponytail. Some of the silvery blonde strands had began to show up through the pink dye. Sighing once again, I dropped my hand into my lap before staring at Mary.
"The new exchange student...what do you think she'll be like?" I said and my eyes narrowed as I saw the evil glint in Mary's eyes for just a split second. I knew exactly what she was planning and I knew I had to convince her otherwise. I opened my mouth to argue with her but the teacher waltzed in and Mary walked over to her seat, leaving the words that I so wanted to say on the tip of my tongue. I slumped back into my seat but sat up promptly as I saw a girl walk in after the teacher.
"Everyone, this is Jabami Yumeko, the new transfer student. I hope that you will all treat her well." The teacher said as Jamabi smiled at all of us. I stared at her, taking in her appearance. She was about the same height as me with very pale skin and long pitch black hair which was cut in a bizarre style. I looked into her eyes and frowned slightly. There was something about her that I couldn't decipher but I was getting a bad vibe from her. I shook it off and smiled, not wanting to come off as hostile and she sent a small wave in my direction in return.
"Suzui, go and show Yumeko around the school." The teacher said and Suzui stumbled as he stood up, blushing like a fool and walked out of the classroom with Jamabi trailing behind him. The second the classroom door slammed closed, I clenched onto my pencil tighter, the same smile still plastered onto my face. There was something strange about her and I had a feeling that everything was going to change.

Class had finally ended and everyone crowded around Jabami, asking her various questions about what school she previously attended and so on. I tried to hang back from the crowd but my plans were foiled when Jamabi walked towards me, smiling broadly whilst gesturing towards my hair.
"Is it naturally pink?" She said politely and I sent a small smile back whilst readjusting my collar of my uniform.
"No Jamabi, I dye it." I replied and she lightly chuckled whilst extending a hand out to me, which I eyed with interest.
"Please, call me Yumeko." She said and I shook her hand whilst smiling once again.
"My name is Yomozuki Aiko, but please feel free to call me Aiko." I said and she nodded. We both stared at each other for a second, maybe trying to figure out each other when Mary graciously walked over to the both of us, lightly resting a hand on Yumeko's shoulder. I eyed Mary cautiously, trying to decide what she was going to do. Yumeko turned and smiled at Mary and my blood ran icy in my veins. Although they were both smiling, I could sense the malice that both girls were giving off. It was almost as if they were sizing each other up. Suzui stepped forward, probably to intervene but was stopped in his tracks by Mary smiling at him. Silently, he came and stood next to me and we both watched to see what would transpire.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Satome Mary, I hope that we can become friends!" Mary said and Yumeko nodded in agreement. Mary stepped backwards, clasping her hands together excitedly and said the words I dreaded to hear.
"Yumeko, would you like to gamble with me?" Mary said and Yumeko gasped before nodding quickly. Suzui opened his mouth to say something and I quickly tugged on his sleeve, shaking my head slightly. Mary was incredibly cruel to people she disliked, especially Suzui considering the fact that he was a HousePet. HousePets were people in the school who had owned someone or a group of people a large sum of money but were unable to pay it so instead, they became subjected to getting bullied and treated like dirt. Suzui owed Mary five million Yen. He was unable to pay it and so he became her personal slave. I didn't agree with Mary treating him in such as way but it was almost like school culture now and I tried my hardest to make sure that Suzui never got into as much trouble as possible with her.
"There's nothing that can be done." I hissed through gritted teeth and Suzui glared at me. He was probably expecting me to try and stop Mary, seeing as I was friends with her but even I knew there was very little that could be done. Mary was trying to establish her dominance over Yumeko to see if she was worthy and there was very little I do to stop it from happening. It was inevitable. However, I didn't really trust Yumeko ;something about her seemed strange and sickening.
All around us, everyone was getting ready for the gamble, pulling out the equipment needed and moving the desks out of the way. I took this as an opportunity to slyly look at Mary, shaking my head slightly. She ignored me, instead choosing to grin at me and that's when I knew she was too into this gamble already, intent on breaking Yumeko. Sighing, I walked over to the window, watching the trees tremble against the harsh winds and the feeling of sickness -or maybe it was pure fear- come back to me.
Hopefully, this gamble would go alright.
