Was there really an art to war?

Yes, one could master the arms of the time, swords, Spears, and even the nunchucks, but their is not really any art to war is there? Just mindless slaughter at the expense of the common man.

At the very least, Master Guan Yu taught you the value of the martial arts, the pure use of it for good, and to put others before ones self.

Those were Master Guan Yu's philosophies before he died.

You continued to train alone, perfecting the already superb techniques you were taught, Everyday from dusk to dawn, in your home outside the Shu region.

You were once with Shu alongside Master Guan Yu, but saw little cause in war after he died, even for a cause as just as Liu Bei's.

You stayed in your home, surviving off pelts of your hunts and the occasional drunk bet of battle, which you unsurprisingly won every time.

All was quiet for so long.

Until one day, you received a knock at your door.

You opened to find a young, short haired woman adorned in a elegant set of armor and holding a shield with a sword in it's scabbard.

Her face was beaming in the sunlight.

Woman: You are (Y/N), yes?

You: I am? And you are?

Woman: I am Xingcai, daughter of Zhang Fei, sworn brother to your master.

You remembered Master Zhang Fei, always eager for battle and lazy to think his actions through.

You: Does Master Zhang Fei seek an audience?

Xingcai: No, I do actually.

You were somewhat confused.

You: What do you wish from me? I wouldn't expect you to come this far for tea.

Xingcai hesitated, then spoke.

Xingcai: I wish for you to train me in the martial arts.

You were somewhat unsurprised at her request, as with Master Guan Yu gone, you were the only one to know of his teachings, save for his children who were at war, so many approached you for lessons, all of which you denied.

But what would cause Xingcai to think her request would be different.

You: I don't teach.

Xingcai: Father said that you would say that.

You: And I feel he told you something else.

Xingcai once again hesitated.

Xingcai: Father said that it was destined that we, the two next in line of our teachings, would meet and train together.

You understood that Zhang Fei was referring to Guan Yu's teachings on destiny, which in his defense, made you consider Xingcai's request.

You thought deeply, feeling the presence of Master Guan Yu pushing you to say yes.

You looked at Xingcai.

You: Very well, I will teach you.

Xingcai bowed politely.

Xingcai: Thank you, Master.

Over the next few months, you trained Xingcai as Master Guan Yu did you, with patience and tolerance for mistakes.
