So, I don't really know the story behind Nier, mainly because I never played the games. So I'm going with a custom story where you're a robotic engineer that creates 2B. Enjoy!

It is, perhaps on a normal basis, to question the validity of emotion.

Is love a true occurrence within the human code? or is it just a chemical reaction within evolution?

Regardless, your profession was not that of psychology, or philosophy in this matter, but engineering, robotics to be specific.

You owned your own lab within The University Of Oxford, creating and testing various mechanical wonders for the betterment of mankind, all failures.

You struggled to find a proper mechanical design for a medical droid that would aid in the wellbeing of soldiers on the front lines, but every schematic was flawed in some way, be it the constantly breaking treads on a small vehicular droid, or the coding errors on a surgical droid, nothing seemed to work.

It wasn't until you stumbled upon a certain book that you found the solution.

It was a copy of the anatomy notes and research done by the renaissance artist, Leonardo Da Vinci, compiled into a book in the university library.

Upon opening the book, the concept of your next droid flooded your mind, why make a clunky machine when you could make a fully functioning, lifelike automation capable of performing any and all tasks that trained medical personnel could.

You rushed to your lab, book in hand, and spent the entire night drawing out a design.

You thought female, as it would be more reassuring and noticeable on battlefields, and drew the design into a female body.

You noted in your design that a lack of obvious eye sensors would hinder the automaton's ability to see on harsh conditions, so instead went with a three hundred and sixty degree sensor system that would allow complete and uninterrupted vision.

After a exhausting night of designing, upon morning light coming through the lab windows, your design was complete.

You called the board to examine your design, and though they were doubtful of your success, your impressive track record with the university caused them to approve of the project, giving you resources and a full team of engineers.

In just a month, you and your team made the upper half of a working automaton, which was covered by a black dress provided by the tailoring club.

The automaton was also given white hair and black eye wrappings by the engineers, who said that they made her look cute.

You and a engineer performed a basic test.

You: Test 1A, first attempt at command response and task performance....Pick up the cup.

The automaton reached for a small styrofoam cup, and picked it up.

You: Excellent, now put it down.

The automaton put the cup down back on the desk that it rested.

Engineer: Incredible! Full command response and performance!

You: Yes...now pick up the book.

The automaton picked up the book.

Engineer: What are you doing, sir?

You: I want to test her knowledge retrieval program...read the marked page.

The automaton read the page in a soft voice, without stuttering or interruptions.
