Change Me - Chapter 1

Jessica's POV 💭

It was the first day of my Senior Year and as you would expect .. I'm excited. It's another year closer to graduation! Not to mention I already have a few scholarships lined up. One for softball and two or three for academics.

When I walked into the school on this sunny day, I went straight to the front office to get my schedule. Pre-Calculus, Physics, American Literature, AP U.S History, Photography, and Physical Education in that order. I would have lunch during U.S History.

I wandered around the halls looking for my friends, but mostly my girlfriend Demi. We scarcely saw each other this summer. She worked at a summer camp and I worked at Foot Locker. But we made time when we could and in three weeks it'll be our one year anniversary.

After I found my friends and we compared schedules the bell rang and I headed to Pre-Calculus with my best friend Shelley. To my surprise when we walked in my girlfriend was there! How much better can this get?!

I hugged her, gave her a kiss, and claimed the seat next to her. She looked at me with a very sad look on her face... It totally killed my mood and worried me.

"Demi, what's wrong?" I finally asked her

She looked down at her hands avoiding further eye contact with me. "I messed up ..." She said

"What do you mean you messed up? Babe, what did you do?"

"Well .. Over the summer... At the summer camp, I was working at I met another girl... One of the other counselors and I hooked up with her throughout the summer and ...."

"And what?!" I said obviously upset

"She's my girlfriend now .."

"Wow ... How low could you be?! I'm so done with you! Don't talk to me anymore ." I said as I stood up to move my seat

Demi grabbed my hand,"I'm sorry! I didn't mean for any of this to happen it just happened! "

"You lied to me for the whole summer... You made your choice. And I'm done with you ."

I pulled my hand away from her and moved towards the back with Shelley. A few tears escaped my eyes and I quickly wiped them away when the late bell rang. Our teacher, Mr.Murphy, stood up and started his introduction but was interrupted but Tyler Jackson and her little "gang" running into the room and when I say gang I mean an actual gang. Guns, drugs, bandanas, rivalries, everything.

"Nice of you to join us Ms.Jackson and friends. Late passes?" The whole class laughed a little, even me. But Tyler only noticed me.

"What's so funny white girl?" She said with a little smirk on her face.

"I have a name ." I shot back quickly

She looked back at her friends then said,"Alright... That's fair. What's your name white girl?"

"Jessica." At that moment Demi looked at me with a "what are you doing?!" face... But I ignored it

Tyler nodded and smiled,"Jessica... Jessica .. Ok Jessica . " she took her seat in the next row, a couple of desks back.

*In Photography Class*

All of my classes went by pretty fast today. But it's only the first day and I still have one class to go. I was examining work on the wall when a familiar voice came up behind me.

"We meet again white girl .." She whispered slowly in my ear.

I jumped a little bit but I tried not to show it.
