Karura Tsukinami
"What a fucking cock-tease..." the brunette half-breed said, and his older brother scolded him. He left the room with the alchemist after he threatened the purple-haired vampire prince who had his other brother by the hair.
My sides ached as I rose from my seat and signaled for Shin to do the same. "I believe this would be a good time for Shin and myself to retire as well," I placed my cloth napkin on the table next to my finished dinner. "Reiji, will you show us to our quarters please?" I asked with barely concealed contempt.
"Of course," he answered, standing up from his chair, and summoning Akinbode.
Akinbode teleported into the room at his master's call. "How may I be of service, Master?" He asked, bowing his head, submissively.
Standing up and placing his napkin on his plate he answered, "We have finished supper, clean as you see fit." After Reiji responded to his butler, he turned to Shin and I. "Follow me," he ordered and exited the dining room with us right behind him.
"Brother?" Shin looked at me with worry as my slight limp from the Endzeit slowly turned into a severe one and I shook my head.
"I'm fine..." I winced.
Shin had always been the only one, aside from our mother, to truly worry for my well-being. He was always by my side even after I had to take his eye and give it to the king of the Vibora. Due to our powerful bond, Shin stayed with me after I killed Giesbach, our father, after he massacred our race with his biologically engineered virus, Endzeit.
During my fight with Giesbach, he stabbed me with a blade coated with my mother Krone's blood. Krone was my father's first test subject to actually develop Endzeit after she had outlived her usefulness as his queen. Giesbach used my mother to perfect the genocidal weapon that destroyed the First Blood race and would eventually kill me if we didn't find a cure.
Shin wasn't even aware of the fact I had contracted the virus until that naïve woman revealed it to him with her dying breath. "Save Karura... Find the cure..." she had whispered, then died in his arms.
He had no doubt that it was Giesbach's virus due to one undeniable fact: Demons can't get sick from natural catalysts. Even though he was aware of my illness, he refused to treat me sympathetically. In fact, Shin treated me with even more respect and reverence. He was proud that I could keep such a severe sickness from him as long as I did. If anything, Shin became even more protective of me than before and, after thorough discussion, we mated. We have been together ever since. Shin has been giving me his blood, which is a temporary preventative to keep the disease at bay. It would seem that I need more of it right now.
Shin had pressed his hand against my back and guided us behind the vampire, when Reiji stopped in front of a door.
"This is a two-bedroom suite," he said, opening and holding the door. "If you need anything else, my familiar will come when you call."
I dipped my head to Reiji, as we passed him and entered our suite.
"This will suffice for now, goodnight." I dismissed the vampire, wanting to have some privacy with my mate.
"Very well. Breakfast is at 6:30 p.m. and the limo leaves for school at seven o'clock p.m.," Reiji informed. "The limo will pick us up from campus at four a.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30. Have a pleasant evening." He showed himself out, quietly shutting the door behind him.
Immediately after the door shut, I collapsed against Shin.
"Karura!" he exclaimed, wrapping his arms around me.
Shin's golden eye bored into me, searching for any visible sign of the bruising that came with my sickness. I gripped my left side painfully and Shin brushed my hand away.
His eyes widened as he lifted my shirt out of the way so he could see the area that was bothering me. "Wow, love... I'm surprised you're still awake right now," Shin winced, but I could still see a twinge of pride at my ability to hide my emotions.
I grimaced painfully. "I may have over-extended myself a bit..."
Shin snickered and raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow sarcastically. "Maybe just a little," he joked, trying to lighten the mood. "Do you still have the lotion?"
I groaned. "Hold on..."
Shin's eye widened, fearfully. "No, wai—!"
I conjured a jar of the healing ointment that, when mixed with a First Blood's blood, could erase the Endzeit bruising; however, I hadn't thought of the consequences of using my magic and instantaneously howled out in pain.
"Shit..." Shin whispered, sympathetically and grabbed the jar of cream from me. He picked me up carefully and laid me down on a chaise lounge, taking off my scarves, suit jacket, and shirt.
Shin popped open the jar and dug his fangs into his wrist. After he had properly punctured his vein, he held his arm over the jar and let his blood flow into it. When Shin deemed, he emptied enough of his blood into the jar, he pressed his wrist to my lips.
"Drink," he ordered as he put the top back on the jar and shook it.
I glared at him but complied reluctantly. His blood was sweet and flowed quickly as I drank it down. I could feel my strength coming back with every sip that I took from him and I knew that I should stop. I pulled away from him and licked his wound closed, pressing a kiss to his healed skin.
"The balm is ready, baby," Shin told me as I laid back against the armrest.
He began to massage the salve into my bruised skin, and I moaned in relief. Shin was very thorough with the lotion. He found every minute sign of Endzeit bruising on my body and used his gentle fingers to knead the balm into my skin.
"All finished," he mumbled and moved to rest himself between my legs and lay his head on my chest.
"Thank you, ætheon," I murmured lovingly, pressing a kiss onto the top of my mate's head.
Shin smiled contently and began scenting me, purring possessively. "I won't let father's virus take you from me..."
His body moved languidly against my own as he scent-marked me. Scent-marking is an ancient demon mating tradition that corresponds to our animalistic instinct to mark our territory by rubbing our scent onto our mate. This tradition is unnecessary, but Shin did it due to his fear of losing me and it was so soothing that I began to lose consciousness.
"Goodnight, my king..."
