I woke up that morning a nasty mess. I had shit caked all to my legs. My ass was stickin to my comforter. I was mad pissed but I only had myself to blame. I got up slowly and walked into my bathroom to take a much needed shower. I let the water run across my aching muscles. I poured some bath gel into my loofah and began to wash my body slowly. As the water was pushing  the soap down the drain. I heard the lightest knock on the door. I turned towards the sound and listened. I heard it again so I pulled the shower door back and stuck my head out.

I listened, there it was again ,"Who in the hell," I turned the shower off and threw a towel around my frame and pulled the door open and standing before me was Dee. "How in the shit did you get in here," she placed her hands on her wide hips "For real momma," I looked at her dumbfounded "For real Dee," she shook her head and held up the butter knife she held in her hand "I knocked and when you didn't answer I got worried. So, I wobbled into the kitchen and grabbed a butter knife and BAM! instant lock picker," I slapped the knife outta her hand "Get the hell outta my room. How long have you been doin this?" she looked at me with tears in her eyes "I was just worried about you is all," I pointed in the direction of my bedroom door. Dee got the picture and turned and wobbled away. I snatched the bottle off the bed and placed it on the nightstand and snatched up the file on Casey Jarvis and called Tija'.

It was still early but I knew she would be awake. The phone rung a total of three times before I heard "Hello," I started right in "Hello Tija', this is Desire," I heard her say something to someone then she put the phone down. I soon heard...

"Why don't you be quiet shit, this is business and yo' ass up complaining already. I swear I can't stand yo' ass,"

"Hello," she said with an attitude

"Hey, did I call at a bad time,"

"Naw, this ignorant nigga talkin about who callin you this time of morning. I ain't got to explain shit nigga, this my shit and if you don't like it you can get yo' shit and get out,"

"Tija baby, calm down,"

"Naw, fuck that calm down shit. This nigga must not know who my momma is,"

"TIJA!!"

"WHAT DAMMIT!!"

"Excuse you, you know what, imma let that bullshit slide. Look imma need you to get Nicolleta on this case,"

"You talking about neck rolling, shit talking, Nikki,"

"Yep, she just lost her child last year due to some complications and you know how she feels about the babies. So, yea, I need ghetto, go get'em Nikki on this Casey Jarvis case,"

"A'ight Boo, it's your call. I'll give her a ring and let her know. Hey, you coming into work today?"

"I'm not for sure right now. I might stop by and see my friend at the hospital,"

"Oh okay, well let me call Nikki,"

"A'ight, good lookin,"

"A'ight Desire, stop nigga damn. You so stupid acting,"

I disconnected the call because I didn't have the time and or the patience. I heard a knock at my bedroom door and then Dee walked in with the cordless. "Momma, it's Dre," I snatched the phone from her grasp and asked "What's up," he chuckled "Just checkin in boss lady. I should be home next week you gone come scoop me right," I shook my head "Yea, imma come scoop you," he laughed "Cool, but momma let me holla at you about something," I sat down on the bed "Speak," he became serious "Can you please stop giving Dee a hard time. She's trying and to be honest she doesn't need to be stressed right now," I nodded my head "Okay Dre, but-" he cut me off "Momma you taught us that the word but didn't exist. You told us the only but we had to worry about was the one you was gone beat if we didn't graduate high school. Momma, do me this one favor please," I smiled and replied "Sure thing Dre," he laughed "Okay, One" "Bye Boi," and then we disconnected.

I passed the phone to Dee and she turned to leave. "Look Dee, if you spend six months here after you have the baby that's fine. Soon after I want you back in Cali to finish your education. I don't want you going to community college. I want you to experience the college life. I know you can understand that. I loved it when I went away to college. Not only because there were no parents to monitor my every move but the freedom and the atmosphere was amazing. I want you to experience everything college and life has to offer you and you can't do that if you're afraid to fly. Your brother loves you this I know but he's experiencing life and loving it. He can't protect you forever sweetie at some point you're gonna have to come out of your cocoon and use your wings," Dee looked at me and smiled "I understand momma and thank you," she reached over and gave me a hug and kissed me on the cheek and then she disappeared.
