"It's so cold."
The floors creak underneath my bare feet as I walk out into an empty living room. The room was dark except for a dim lamp the was set on the floor next to a bunch of white blankets and comforters. I set down three pillows neatly on top of the covers that Grayson had put out a couple minutes ago.
"It's because it's empty." Grayson was standing next to the ceiling-to-floor windows, hands on hips and back bare. His skin was nicely tanned but also a little burnt from the Australian sun. I walk up to him and wrap my arms around his waist; he turns back to look at me. "You okay?" he asks.
"Of course." I muffle into his back. His skin was warm against my face but also wet from his damp, showered hair. I can feel the muscles in his back flex as he removes his hands from his hips to put them on top of mine. It's been a year already since I've been in this constant day dream. Being in this relationship with Grayson has showed me how real love can be. Every part of me wants him, needs him and now I have him. We're committed at this point. We have an apartment with both of our names written on the lease. It's a big step. People criticized me for moving so fast, especially with a boy like Grayson. I was told I would never be able to handle a boy like him, that I should expect heartbreak, betrayal and lies. It was all bullshit of course. The girls who told me that just wanted him for themselves. Oops.
I start planting small kisses on his back. "You still smell like salt water."
"Get used to it." he chuckles.
I move my hands away from his, going towards the draw string of his shorts. I make a move to tuck my hands in but he quickly grabs them and pulls them away. "Why?" I ask.
He turns around and puts both hands on my cheeks. "Because, it's too empty in here to be making so much noise." he whispers and kisses my forehead.
"I'll be quiet, I promise." I smirk. This causes Grayson to give a small laugh. He rests he forehead against mine. I close my eyes and embrace his closeness. His breath smelled like mangoes. I wonder if his lips taste like them. I make a move to kiss him nut he pulls away. "You're rude." I pout.
"And you're cute." he walks away from me, leaving standing by the window by myself. There is a clear reflection of the moonlight glistening from the water. I hear Grayson shuffling and moving around and soon I hear music playing. Feels Like We Only Go Backwards by Tame Impala. He's been into them a lot lately.
I turn around and see him sitting on the middle of the blankets, staring at me. He has a smirk on his face as his eyes study my body. He thinks he's so slick.
I couldn't help but smile at him. I knew exactly what he wanted. I start swaying my body to the rhythm of the beat. He watches closely as I begin moving closer to him.
It feels like we only go backwards, darling.
Grayson is biting down on his lip by the time I"m just inches away from him. I'm standing in between his legs and reaches up to grab the bottom of my shorts. He pulls, signaling for me to get on his level. And so I do. I move in closer to his lips but I tease a little. I don't kiss him making him move forward to make contact. But I keep pulling back. "You're a god damn tease." he says.
"Are you complaining?"
"No, actually." Grayson grabs me by my waist and pulls me on top of him. I lean down and peck his plump lips. He rolls his eyes, "Could you stop playing with my feelings?" He suddenly flips me over so I'm the one on my back and he's on top of me. His hazel eyes looked down at me sweetly, considering the current situation, that seemed a bit odd. "I love you." He says.
"I love you too, Grayson."
He kisses me deeply, passionately; using his lips to create fluent movement with mine. I find my hands moving from his shoulders down to his lower back dimples. He pulls away, "You remember your promise right?"
I let out a laugh. "Of course."

The next morning I woke up because I didn't feel Grayson's warmth next to me. I only felt the hardness of the ground under my back. I kicked out my foot from underneath the covers and stretched my body to the side of the blankets where he was laying. I hear music playing. Tame Impala again. He must really like this song. I turned my head towards the window to see him opening the shades. He's singing softly along to the song that's playing.
"It feels like we only go backwards. darling." I sing along.
Grayson turns his head to look at me. "Good morning, beautiful." he smiles. He starts walking towards me, his shorts riding low against his hips. I bite my lip a little in remembrance of last night. Oh boy. I snuggle my smiling face into his pillow; smells like salt water. " What are you smiling about?" he asks.
I lift my head from the pillow to see him laying on the other side of me. "You."
He lays his head down on the pillow next to me. I get a better look at him as the sunlight hits his face. His eyes look more green, his skin more fair and his lips more pink. He puts his hand on my cheek and caresses it softly. He runs his thumb over my lips, parting them slightly. "Are you ready?" he mumbles.
"Ready for what?"
"To spend the rest of your life with me."
I feel a smile stretch across my face.
Of course I am.
