Chapter 9- No Promises

"She's coming." said Wilmer. "Is everything ready?"

"Yes! How do you know that they are coming?" said Demi.

"Because, I see them right outside the door through the window."

"Oh, well, I am not thinking then, hopefully this will be good for us, especially since, you know."

"Ya, don't worry, this will turn out better than last time."

"DING DONG!" went the door bell.

Demi got the door, smiling and said, "Winter, come on in my dear. Oh my, is that all that you have." said Demi when she saw Winter's suitcase.

"Yes, this is all I was able to bring with us when my father told me to..." said Winter, her voice fading off into the distance.

At night Demi asked Winter why she had not wanted to talk about her father and why she was an orphan. When Winter refused to talk, Demi took a deep breath and started to give her an exampled of something that was hard for her in her life.

"When Wilmer and I fist adopted, we adopted a 16 year old girl. She had problems with her parents, she came here with problems like doing drugs, having sex every Friday with a different guy and she always cut herself. One day she got drunk at a party for the first time, she slept with 5 guys and eventually got so overdosed that she didn't make it." I said, tears running down my face.

"Why did you adopt me?" said Winter quietly.

"Because, first of all I try to help other kids and because I..."
