blessing and a curse. It fills you with the desire to learn everything about life, but can cost you yours as well.'Nature's wild card', Nova named it so carelessly, as if she wasn't an expert at it herself. She believed her only talent was her ability to question things.
To her curiosity never killed the cat. If you have no desire for answers or change, natural selection would've killed you anyways. To others though, caution is their religion. Which is why I primarily have reasons to believe Bellamy thinks I'll burn down the forest if he doesn't stay within twenty feet of me. Like a child who can't keep their hand out of the cookie jar, he assumes the temptation of fire is too much for me to bear.
When Bellamy asked-commanded-I be apart of the hunting trip I guessed it'd be to hunt. And it's not hard to understand why he'd choose me. He's seen me manage a knife and was there to witness that brawl between Murphy and I. But Instead, we've just been roaming around stealthily, attached at the hips, so quietly all you hear is the crunching of leaves and steady breathing.
My palms itch in anticipation to hold a shiv, or any weapon for that matter, since I was never given one the moment we left camp grounds. Not because I'm anxious to kill, but I'd rather have something to protect myself if anything were to attack.
Humans aren't that reliable nowadays.
"Why am I here?" I asked with annoyance greasing my words. I see no point in joining a hunt if I have no plans to hunt.
Rather than being here, my time could be spent watching over Wells and adding Jasper to the ever growing list of people I don't want murdered at the hands of Murphy.
Instead of an answer like I hoped, I was silenced.
"Did you just shush me?"
My funny bone tickled, wondering if Bellamy truly believed the simple gesture would shut me up, especially without a little reasonable debate.
"Keep quiet would you." He twirled his axe between his fingers as if it were a pen. With eyes locked on its target, Bellamy held his hand up to signal no movement. The axe rose behind him and in this moment all he cared for was the boar minding its business by some shrubbery. "See that right there? She's mine."
"She? Can't you see the testicles hanging between it's legs?"
A twig snapped beneath the overwhelming weight of someone's foot and was the reason the boar's ears perked. It's instincts overtook his thoughts and like second nature the boar squealed as it bolted through the undergrowth. Bellamy would've been annoyed, angry even, for who was the idiot that sent tonight's dinner running. But the disturbance didn't come from the group. He recognized the direction of the sound so rather having the axe plunge in the juicy belly of the boar, it landed right above the head of a shaking Charlotte.
