I walked to Ruko's house carrying the bento box. "I hope it tastes good... And I hope he likes it...," I mumbled to myself. I arrived in Ruko's house. I knocked on the door. "Ruko! Are you in there?,"I yelled. No one replied. That's strange... Is he in his room? I sent him a text message telling him that I'm supposed to give him something. After several minutes if no replies, I decided to knock on the door once more.
"Who is it?," a girl asked with a stern tone coming from the backyard. "Uh, Nao...?" The girl turned out to be Nao Hatsume. What is she doing in here? "Oh, it's Akari... I'm supposed to give something to Ruko," I replied. Nao glared at me for a moment. "What are you doing in here? It's already night," I asked. "Well... Ruko told me to come over because of a project," Nao calmly replied. Really? Because of a project? Wow, things are getting suspicious right now...
"A project? I don't think he would invite someone to come over in this hour...," I muttered. Nao glared at me once more. "Is there a problem with that?," Nao asked sternly. "Well...," I mumbled. The door suddenly opened. "Akari...? Why are you in here?," Ruko asked with a yawn. "My mother told me to give this to you...," I gave him the bento box. "Thanks, but what for?," Ruko asked. "You are a great friend, and you're always there for me... Even though we're far from each other... So I'm giving this bento box which represents our friendship!," I replied cheerfully.
"Ahh, is that so? Well, you are a great friend too! So I'm really thankful!," Ruko said with a smile. "I'm glad you say so!," I said as I hugged him. "Me too...! By the way, please tell me there is food inside this bento box...!," Ruko whispered. "Of course there is! What's a bento box without bento?," I replied. After a few seconds of hugging him, I finally stopped.
"Anyway, why did you invite Nao to come over?," I asked. "Huh...? Nao...?," Ruko looked confused. "Yeah, Nao... Didn't you invite her?," I asked. "No... We weren't paired up for a project...," Ruko replied, still confused. That's strange... "But I saw her earlier...! She was just standing over..." I glanced at the backyard. "There...," I continued. "Are you sure? I don't think anyone's in there," Ruko said as he glanced at the backyard. "But... She was here earlier!," I said. "Maybe you're just sleepy, why don't you go home now? We still have school tomorrow...," Ruko suggested. I sighed. "Well, I guess so...," I said as I waved him goodbye and walked away from his house. Is it true...? Or am I just dreaming that I talked to Nao? I sighed heavily.
I could feel the cold breeze, making me nervous and worried. Walking alone at night, in a dark and gloomy street barely containing street lights in such situation gives me a strange feeling... I felt like I was a hundred miles away from home. A thought suddenly popped out in my head. What if... I really saw Nao? What if she really talked to me? If all this happened, then... What could've happened to Ruko...? My mind was confused.
I suddenly had a strange feeling that someone was following me. My speed of walking increased. Is... Someone chasing me? I walked faster. I could hear footsteps behind me. Someone is chasing me...! I ran towards my house. The faster I run, the louder footsteps I could hear. "W-who are you?!," I yelled as I run faster. There were no replies. Is it probably Nao...?! I wouldn't dare look behind me. I ran as fast as I could until I reached my house and immediately slammed and locked the door.
I looked through the window as I panted. There was no one outside. "What's going on, Akari?," mom asked. "I... Need to go to bed..."
