It was just another ordinary Saturday where Karlie spent the whole time curled up with a book or a movie in her home. She spends five whole days in a week socialising so weekends were obviously her excuse to not leave the cozy habitat of her apartment. The heavy rain outside was all the more reason for her to not step outside all day and do absolutely nothing without feeling guilty about it.
It was a boring, gloomy day and she didn't really expect anything out of the ordinary to happen, until she heard faint knocks on her door. Why couldn't they just use the doorbell?
Upon inspecting through the peephole, she was genuinely surprised and taken aback by the person who was standing outside. She would never ever expect them to show up suddenly on a rainy Saturday, standing outside her door, probably drenched from head to toe.
She opened the door to a trembling woman, none other than her ex-girlfriend, Taylor.

The usually presentable woman now had rainwater dripping off of her, her perfect blonde hair stuck to her face like glue and makeup was running down the delicate features of her face. The skintight red dress she was donning clung even close to her body and the coat she wore was slightly slung on her shoulder. The woman was trembling because of the cold water hitting her face, and also because she was crying.
"Taylor...what?"
"Can I come in?" The shorter woman mumbled before Karlie let the woman, and her watery footsteps, into her home.
She looked like a mess and it didn't take much for one to make out that something was wrong.
The two women hadn't seen each other in a long time and for all Karlie knew, the older woman was happy with her new boyfriend whose name she couldn't care to memorise.
Karlie grabbed a fluffy towel and wrapped it around the shivering blonde before seating her on the couch, not minding the fact that she was getting everything that she touched wet. Taylor's well being was more important than Karlie's upholstery right now.
"You okay?"
Taylor sniffled and rubbed her arms, making Karlie's eye catch attention of the sparkling diamond on her left hand. She knew Taylor was seeing someone but she would've never guessed that they were as serious as being engaged.
"What happened? Are you okay? Taylor?" Karlie asked with concern filling her entire self. What went wrong? Why was Taylor at her house of all places?
"I'm so stupid, I don't know what I'm doing." The blonde sobbed before a fresh set of tears filled her eyes.
"Take a deep breath, Taylor. You're okay here." As broken up as they were, Karlie still cared about the older woman and seeing her in such a state of distress only made her want to keep her safe and protect her from the outside world, only problem was that Taylor wasn't hers to protect. She was someone else's, and that someone else was nowhere to be seen at the moment.
Taylor tried taking deep breaths but everytime she did, a sob followed which led to another batch of tears. Karlie was physically hurting watching the sight in front of her, she wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around Taylor and whisper soothing words into her ears until she calmed down. But she doubted that would be appropriate. Sure, she had done it before but that was when they were together. But conditions were quite different now.
Taylor's breakdown lasted another fifteen minutes before she wiped the residues off her face and finally decided to speak up, her words coming out in a whisper.
