She'd never been kissed before, and she would've never thought he would've kissed her. The nerd of the school, the teacher's pet. They'd taunt her, and she'd see him walk right past her as if he didn't see what they'd do. But this time, they were alone.
School was over, and most of the activities were coming to an end at this time. Katie just finished after school tutoring for the exams that were coming up. Her fingers trailed the lockers she walked past, her books secure in her arm. As she did so, she saw him walking towards her, his shirt untidy and half tucked in. His walk was always the same: sluggish yet sly. Keith was always reclusive, but for good reason. Out of all the students in the Garrison Academy, Keith Kogane was most likely to drop out before graduation. But Katie, excelling above her class, was the one getting the most attention.
The girl ducked her head as she fleet her face becoming red. Maybe he won't see me like always, she thought to herself, but the two were alone. She heard his steps getting closer, she tried her best to ignore him. Just as the two were about to pass each other she winced when she felt him look at her.
"Everyone laughs at you." Keith said out loud. Katie never let her eyes leave the floor, but she could tell by the way he was talking he was taller than she thought.
"They pick on you like your dirt, but they don't do a thing to me." he looked around almost to see if anyone was around, then looked back at the brown hair that seemed to stare back at him. Maybe because you fight everyone who even tries to she remark silently in her head. It was almost as if he read her mind, he chuckled. Katie looked up at him in complete shock that he'd even laugh, she'd never heard him laugh before.
"I can't believe I'm going to do this." Keith said before grabbed her shoulders, instantly making her drop her books with an echoing thud. The grip her had on her wasn't tight, but gentle. Katie's initial expression was fear since she was used to harassment, but because his hold on her and the look on his eyes expressed a strange source of compassion, she became curious.
"What are you-"
"I want to protect you from those losers Katie." He interrupted her without hesitation. Katie could almost see his face turn a slight hint of pink. "I see them pull your hair, or mock you one more time, I don't even know what I'd do."
Katie was at a loss of words with his, how could someone like him be so protective over someone he didn't even know?
"Y-you don't even know me." She stuttered and saw his attention moved from her big brown eyes to her lips. She couldn't help but notice the vast details in his violet eyes, and soon found herself lost in them. As she studied them she quickly noticed they were getting bigger, then realized that they were only getting closer before feeling pressure on her lips.
I've been an idiot to let those people mess with you for this long. This whole time I've always wanted to talk to you, but I could never have the courage to do it. Sure I fight people all the time, but I could fight all the guys in the school and never be strong enough to tell you how much I want to be around you. It's amazing that even with the constant bullying you still remain the smartest kid here, that takes courage. I wish I was as smart as you. I wish I could be with you. I wish I had that much courage.
