Jack watched Marzia, Tyler, and Mark walk away. He felt confident, he would do this. "Alright, you're good to go Jack." Felix put a thumbs up. Jack smiled and looked at the map Ethan had given him. Apparently there was a secret tunnel that led there. Using his super speed, Jack went down an abandoned hallway.
It smelled absolutely disgusting down there. Jack remembered the smell of the library, it had a similar smell. Cringing Jack hurried and looked for a trap door. Jack was about to question if he was in the right place, until he saw the trap door. At the end of the hallway. Jack opened it up and saw a small ladder attached to it. It was dark. Thankfully Cry had though ahead of time and given him a flashlight.
Jack carefully went down the ladder. Turning on his flashlight, Jack looked around. The place he was in had a very odd feel about it. The walls were concrete, and the floor tile. For some odd reason he felt like he was back in the lab. Jack shuddered at the memory, he remembered all the dead bodies of sector 6.
Jack wanted to get out as soon as possible, but he couldn't use his superspeed. Jack wasn't an idiot, he knew tunnels made echoes. If he ran then surely someone might hear him. Jack knew that most sectors would be outside for the tournament, but Jack wasn't taking any chances.
Walking, Jack flinched at every sound. With the uncomfortable silence, it gave Jack a chance to let his fear creep in. Jack stopped his thoughts, noticing the tunnel expanded. Looking around, Jack noticed yet another lab. His feeling of dread had been confirmed. Here he was in another lab.
Jack took the time to look around, there was still an odd smell that filled the room. Jack could've sworn he smelled it before, but he shook it off. The lab looked abandoned, the only things that were in it were the basic things. Like test tubes, vials, machines. Jack laughed , it felt like he was playing a horror game. Jack stopped laughing when something caught his eye. It was a tv, just sitting there. It was on a table turned on, like it was begging to be looked at. Jack suspiciously crept forward to the tv. It's tape player was left open. Yep classic horror game. He was going to have to find some tapes.
There was nothing else here, the rest had to be in the professor's office. Jack checked his mental watch. He had been in here for almost 20 minutes, he had to hurry. Jack continued walking and eventually found the other latch. Climbing up the ladder and pulling the latch, Jack lifted the small door up. It make a loud creaking sound, wincing, Jack hoped no one had heard him. Pulling himself out, Jack looked around. Everything was blue, it made things difficult to see. "Well, shit!" Jack sighed and looked around. He checked behind the desk, in bookshelves, boxes, basically everywhere.
Jack was at a loss to do, until an idea came to him. He saw it in a movie once. Stepping up on the desk, Jack unscrewed the lightbulb to the ceiling light. Bingo. Jack smiled to himself when he saw a crumpled up paper fall out. Stepping off the desk, Jack opened up the paper.
Tapes in library. 1st bookshelf
"Yes!" Jack pumped his fist into the air. Forgetting about stealth at the moment, Jack used his superspeed to find the hallway to the secret library. While running, Jack noticed that the hole that Tyler made hadn't been fixed. Which was very odd, considering that someone knew they were in the library. Who's footsteps were they? Jack remembered how he heard the footsteps stop.
Shaking his head, Jack continued forward. Now wasn't the time to be worrying about what happened yesterday. Now in the library, Jack tried not to take deep breaths. That weird smell was still there. Walking over to the first bookshelf, Jack grabbed a tape. He saw that it was labeled 'Experiment' Jack did not like the sound of that.
Speeding back to the professor's office, Jack lifted up the latch and found his way back to the lab. Turning on his flashlight, Jack inserted the tape.
The screen lit up, and the tape started.
Jack was shocked to see Professor Arcane on the tape. He looked to be way much younger maybe around his 30's.
A little girl stood beside him, smiling. "This is my daughter." "Say hi!" The girl smiled, and politely said hi. Jack was confused, Was this what the professor was hiding? He has a daughter? The tape skipped to the professor staring at the camera, silent. His green eyes didn't seem so bright anymore. "I tried my first attempt at transplanting other's powers. My results seem to have gone okay." Jack was confused. What was going on?
The tape skipped again. "This is my daughter." Jack nearly choked on what the professor said next. "Say Hi Mary!" The little girl lay on an experimenting table, she was unresponsive. The tape ended. And Jack was terrified. This was what the professor was hiding. It all made sense now. That explained the lab in the forest, the missing sectors. Jack understood what transplanting powers meant. The professor used his own daughter to create a superhuman.
Jack turned around and ran. He didn't care if his speed echoed anymore. He needed to tell the others about what he found. Jack was scared, he wasn't scared for himself. But he was scared for Nate. What could the professor be doing to him?
Jack finally reached the other latch and opened it. He stepped out and froze. "Hello, Jack. Aren't you supposed to be watching the tournament?" There stood professor Arcane. Smiling. But Jack no longer saw it as a kind smile. He saw it as a twisted smile.
Jack felt something hard hit him on the head. His vision darkened, and all he could stare at was that twisted smile. In his last few seconds of consciousness, Jack heard the unmistakable voice of Ethan.
"I'm sorry."
