EDITED.BRITTANY EVANS
"You've got to be kidding me" my eyes went wide as I grabbed Vinny and dragged him back behind the ice cream shop's window. We were supposed to be getting ice cream together, our third official date.
"What is going on Brittany?" Vinny looked at me, his gaze mixed with our close proximity making the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
"No-um nothing, it's just, look for yourself" The two of us looked carefully through the window and saw Madison and Mack laughing at the closest table, looking at each other like there was no one else in the room.
"The funny thing is, I don't even think she realises" He said as he helped me up from our crouching positions and we began walking back the way we came.
"Realises what?" I asked while we walked into a small Italian restaurant.
"Realises that it is true love. Not many people get the chance to meet their soulmate, even less realize who their how significant that person is when they meet them. Mack has the opportunity handed to her and she doesn't even realize it. The way he looks at her, entranced by her every word and movement. She could be a serial killer and he would still be head over heels" He said and sighed. From the passion he put into that comment, I assumed that he didn't believe what we had was anything special.
"Another let down" I muttered and turned to walk away, right out the door. Yet another boy too wrapped up in the greatness that was Mack Bernhard to care about me.
"What? Wait, where are you going!" He ran out of the restaurant and caught up to me, grabbing my arm and tugging me back around to face him.
"I've been living in Mack's shadow my entire fricking life. She's smarter than me, more athletic than me, simply a naturally beautiful person inside and out and I'm basically her sidekick. I've taken a lot of bull from a lot of people 'why don't you ask Mack to tutor you?' 'look at that shirt Mack's wearing! You should dress more like that' and much more and worse. I've been hearing it my whole life, and I don't want to hear it from my boyfriend"
"Did you just call me your boyfriend?" Vinny said, slightly letting go of his grip on my arm.
"That isn't the point, Vin! I'm so tired of being compared to Mack and her coming out above me in every aspect in my life!" I sighed heavily, sick and tired of this life I was living.
"I wasn't trying to compare you to her, I was actually pointing out how oblivious she was in her love life. As for us, I think you're the most beautiful and talented girlI have ever met, Mack doesn't even come close. So stop thinking that you're living in her shadow. If anything, she's living in yours because you're perfect to me" I smiled and kissed him, short and sweet but still making me blush like there's no tomorrow.
"Now, did you just call me your boyfriend?" He said and I looked at the sidewalk below us.
"Maybe" I whispered back, looking up momentarily to see a smile stretched across his handsome features.
"I like the sound of that, girlfriend" He said and made a rediculous googly-eyed face at me, making me laugh and slap him in the arm while we re-entered the Italian restaurant.
I was starting to think that maybe, just maybe, my luck was turning around.
