DAY TWENTY-SIX
(Y/N POV)
Less than a week left. Tyler and I had been silently ignoring each other as much as we possibly could. The only things we had said to each other were "please" and "thank you" at breakfast and dinner. I still cooked, I just didn't talk. Or I tried not to.

That day, I was feeling especially upset. I threw my hair up into a messy bun and kept on my faded t-shirt and sweatpants. I looked at the clock. It wasn't quite six am yet, but I didn't really care. I was hungry. The only place that I wanted food from was IHOP. I walked outside, jumped into my car, and started driving.

It was about a twenty minute drive. I wasn't used to driving alone without anyone to talk to, so I reached to turn on the music. Then I realized: someone was always up at five am. Someone I could talk to about this kind of thing. Brendon. I turned onto his street and drove to his house.

I got out of my car and knocked on the blue door. He opened it almost instantly, wearing a t-shirt and shorts. "What's up, (Y/N)? Come on in," he said, moving out of the doorway. I shut the door behind me and we sat across from each other on his couch.

"I just need someone to talk to," I said. He nodded. "If it doesn't annoy the hell out of you."

"It doesn't. But even if I did, I'd sit through it. Probably," he joked. I laughed. "Anyway, what's going on?"

I explained the entire incident to him, telling him all of the details leading up to me snapping. He nodded thoughtfully, and didn't interrupt me.

"I just don't know what to do," I said, feeling upset but relieved that I had been able to talk about it.

"Well, it sounds to me like you want to go to college. So I think you should listen to that." I nodded. "Tyler is still going to love you. No matter what happens, you two will stick together."

"I just feel like, because of all of the tension, everything is so much worse between us. I mean, before, this wouldn't have even been such a big deal. But I'm just sick of putting up with everything to please him. After everything I've done, I want to be able to do something by myself. It doesn't always have to be the two of us," I confessed. "Sorry. That was probably harsh."

"No, I think you're right," he agreed. "You deserve to make your own decisions. I say go for it. You and Tyler will always stay together. I mean, he was the one that convinced you to go. So go. Live your life." I smiled a little.

"Thanks," I said, standing up. I hugged him. "Do you want me to cook something before you go?"

"Hell yeah," he said, laughing. "There's eggs and stuff in the fridge."

"What a helpful ingredients list," I sassed, and he laughed. I quickly whipped up some scrambled eggs and bacon. "Here you go. Enjoy."

"This is delicious," he said, his mouth full. "Thanks, girl."

"Anytime. See you later." I smiled and waved as I got back in my car. Seven-thirty. I figured that Tyler and Josh would probably be up by then, so I stopped by the store on my way home. As I arrived, I saw that they were both in the living room, on my computer.

"Dude, she's here," Josh said. Tyler quickly shut the laptop.

"Um, what were you doing?" I said, taking it from them. "Were you going through my stuff?" Tyler shook his head.

"It's a surprise. I can't tell you," Tyler said. I rolled my eyes. "I promise."

"Alright," I replied, shrugging. "I got stuff for pancakes. You guys good with that?" They nodded enthusiastically, and I walked to the kitchen. "Oh, crap, I forgot milk."

"I'll get it," Josh said, jumping up. "I'll be back in a few." He dashed out the door before I could protest.

"Okay then," I said, confused. I sat next to Tyler on the couch. I was about to speak, but he interrupted me.

"You were right. I shouldn't have been such a jerk about all of that. You aren't abandoning me and I shouldn't have said that. I'm sorry," he said quickly. I looked at him, surprised. He looked like he wanted to say something else.

"And?"

"I really don't want you to go," he mumbled, looking at the ground. I turned his head to me and noticed that his eyes were full of tears.

"Oh, Tyler," I said sadly, my heart breaking. "Come here." I wrapped my arms around him tightly.

"I love you," he whispered, and I pulled back, looking at his adorable face.

"I love you too," I answered, and I kissed him.

Our conversation didn't fix everything. It wasn't like magic. It wouldn't work forever. But it worked for now.

And that was all that mattered.
