My mother used to tell me it took only one instant to fall in love.
My dad said it took thousands.
Never did I know who was right, until now. I never knew until I stood, looking across the cafe at a short, dark haired girl.
It was both. You fall in love in a second. It takes one singular moment to feel that strong emotion that tethers you to that person. It takes thousands to realize what you're feeling. And each one of those moments are better than the last.
Melissa's a mystery and the clues at the same time. Her face and words coexist and create lovely words that flow out of her and through me. I feel whatever it is she says.
On the other hand, her eyes are a complete mystery. They try to follow her brain's lead, but it never works. Her eyes stare back at whatever it is they're focusing on, sending daggers without meaning to.
I want to know the mystery, I want to solve it. I can't stand the thought of her dealing with everything alone. Whatever it is, it must be huge to have to force her into the corner she's now in. Everywhere she looks is a wall of despair and all it does is reflect back into her eyes, showing everyone else.
There's rarely a smile on her face. Whenever there is, it's complete life changing. Never have I seen a mouth so perfectly curved up. The rareness of her happiness makes when she's feeling it that much better. It feels great to be someone she wants to share that feeling with and I wish she knew she could do it more.
Love is a four letter word my brain has yet to wrack itself around. Each time I feel as if I've reached that title, it comes toppling down. The boulders that keep rolling down the mountain and over me are in the shapes of pretty smiles, light eyes, and fake feelings. Life as the heartbreak-ee brings your confidence tumbling down to the ground.
That is, until you find someone to bring it back up.
