Later that day Coal returned to the small farm. She played around with Honey Dew as they chased each other. Night fell and the two fillies said their goodbyes, Coal picked up Purple Buttons and left. Coal trotted through the corn feild, the light of the moon barely grasping her pelt. Coal felt the warm breeze brush over her, she squinted through the darkness to try and catch sight of home. there was rustling in the feild; causing Coal to look around in fear. She jumped and let out a squeak when she felt a hoof touch her shoulder.
"Now where were you?" A familiar soft voice was heard, Coal looked up and saw Minkie standing there. Now typically the frowning face was nothing to be concerned of; but in this case, Minkie's eyes wore the expression of a concerned guardian mixed with a side of anger ad relief. "Let's go home." Coal lowered her head and followed the mare home, when the front door opened there was a sudden pounce of a pink blur.
"Coal Dust! Oh Coal Dust we were looking for you everywhere!" Pinkie Pie said squeezing the filly closely. "Yeah where were you Dust?" Applebloom asked, stepping out from the stair case under candlelight. "I was playing with my new friend.."Coal replied lowering her head.Minkie looked at Pinkie who shook her head "You told me the house was empty." Minkie's tone lowered as the atmosphere suddenly turned colder.
"It WAS empty, but i guess it wasn't inhabited until now." Getting a large grin on her face, She leaned towards Coal and hugged her "We'll have alot of fun baking with her!" giggling in glee as a look of horror spread across her face. Applebloom gave a smile as Babs gave the smirk that sent chills down Coal's spine. "But that doesn't mean you dont get anything from the baking even though you don't want to join."
Pinkie smiled, but even then something heavy filled her heart as she looked at Minkie "Are we really going to turn her into cupcakes?" she felt her voice crack, as something unwanted started to fill her eyes. Minkie's eyes lifted for a bit, looking down at the filly who began to tear up. The others looked, Pinkie began to tear up a little as well. Minkie was silent, but took in a deep sigh; she was going to regret this.
"We won't bake your friend-" Coal looked up "- under a few rules." Coal nodded and sat down on the couch when Minkie had offered a seat. "Firstly you can only play with her after your chores are done, You cannot play after Sunset and you are expected to be home before that, She cannot come to our house; neither her family, and lastly." Minkie looked at Coal with a dead serious expression "You cannot mention our baking harvest, ever." Coal nodded in agreement
Minkie sighed, already feeling the glares of confusion and disapproval on her "As for right now, you are in trouble, you did not tell us where you were going and worried us sick." Coal Dust nodded "You are going to have supper then march to bed, tomorrow you are going to tell your friend you cannot play because you are in trouble then come home." Minkie's motherly tone slightly shocked Pinkie pie but was hushed by Babs who shook her head.
Minkie hugged Coal Dust before shooing her to the dining room "Coal Dust," Coal Dust looked behind her "Don't get too attached." Coal nodded and went to the dining room. Whatever being that is out there may have given her a bad mother to start with, it gave her a better guardian in return.
