It was a bright and sunny day, the birds were chipping, the weather was nice, nature seemed lovely and life was beautiful. Even the roads seemed to be cleaner and the sun shined brighter. Everything was perfect, or maybe that is how life looks when you are in love. And yes, I was in love and that made everything seem brighter. It was only two days after Emeka and I had begun dating, and I had thought of him all the time. At the moment, I was in my office, arranging and filing documents when there was a knock on my door. I wondered who it was. I had never had a visitor since I had resumed work, except sometimes when my bosses' secretary came in to give me more work. I got up and opened the door, and there he was standing in all loveliness. It was Emeka, and he looked even more dazzling that usual. He closed the door behind him and bolted it.
"Hey" he said giving me the sexiest smile ever
"Hey yourself" I replied blushing "did you just come to see me?" I asked
"Well kind of, sort of" he replied and kissed me. I reciprocated for about 2 minutes and then gently moved him away. "We are at work you know. No mixing of business with pleasure"
"Yea I know" he said smacking his lips, but you smell like strawberry and I could not help myself. I was happy when I heard that as I had gotten a new perfume.
"Okay, Emy what do you want please I have to finish this for my boss"
"I just wanna spend time with you" he said "Do not worry about your boss."
"Well you know I have to. I just got this job sweetie and I won't jeopardize ir. By the way you have not told me the office you work under. Who is your boss" I asked? Although I knew quite well he was the Managing director. I wondered why he had never told me about that. Was he trying to hide something from me? Ngozi, don't get paranoid now. You guys just began dating. You cannot know his family history in a day I cautioned myself.
However, when I asked who his boss was, Emeka coughed and immediately said "I came to give you this."
"What is it" I asked and opened the envelope he gave me
"Read it" he said and I did. I gave out a shout of joy and hugged him after I did. It was a ticket, to Puerto rico"
"Oh Emeka, you are so sweet. But why? And wow it is in three weeks' time. I have work Emy"
"Yea, you know about the Lems week off right? The ticket is booked for that week so we have about 11 days to ourselves" Emeka said
"Lems week? I have no idea what that is" I said
"Well every year, Lems Company gives a week holiday to its employees apart from the general holidays too. So since the flight leaves on Friday, we have the first weekend to ourselves, then a week from the Company. Then we also have the weekend after that week, and Monday and Tuesday in observance of the Id el Fitr holiday. Wednesday, we come back and Thursday you can come back to work if you want or rest and resume the next week. I already checked with your boss and he said it was okay." Emeka explained and handed me a letter which was basically a permission from my boss.
At this point, I was a bit lightheaded. I was happy at the surprise vacation Emeka had planned for us, but I knew he most probably had made my boss sign the letter, since he was the MD. I was happy he could do all this for me, but why would he say he asked my boss for permission when he had most porobably gotten it because he was in charge of everyone, and did not want to let me know. 'There you are again being paranoid' I thought to myself.
"I will think about it love" I said and planted a kiss on Emekas lips.
"It's okay Ng," He said and hugged me. "Now I have to get back to work"
"I love you"
"I love you too" Emeka said and left, leaving me with a plane ticket, a permission letter and a confused mind.
