On the second Sunday of Lent, the Orthodox Church commemorates St. Gregory Palamas.
The Orthodox Church in America website says this about St. Gregory Palamas: "It was Saint Gregory (d.1359) who bore living witness that men can become divine through the grace of God in the Holy Spirit; and that even in this life, by prayer and fasting, human beings can become participants of the uncreated light of God's divine glory."
As St. Athanasius said (I think in his work On the Incarnation), "God became man so that men might become gods."
According to the OCA website, the position of St. Gregory Palamas, which was verified by the Constantinople Council of 1341, is "that God, unapproachable in His Essence, reveals Himself through His energies, which are directed towards the world and are able to be perceived, like the light of Tabor, but which are neither material nor created." I'm sorry, but Googling the light of Tabor seems like following an additional tangent at the moment, so if you're interested, go explore the wonderfully educational realms of Google! :D
Now, here are the readings for the 2nd Sunday of Lent!
Hebrews 1:10-2:3 (Epistle)
Mark 2:1-12 (Gospel)
And some good videos to watch!
