I sat in my art class a few days later trying desperately to focus on the teacher, but with Alex sat next to me it was hard to pay attention. He definitely wasn't - he was sat writing an essay for politics, which was a class he actually cared about. He only did art to make him seem like a well-rounded person. Really he would rather be in another class that was much more academically oriented.

But he looked so good; I couldn't take my eyes off him. I knew I was supposed to be facing the front, looking at the teacher's presentation, but I couldn't do that either. I probably wasn't missing anything important; besides, I could draw better than almost everyone in the class.

Almost everyone.

I hadn't counted Eliza Schuyler. She was so vibrant, so lively, and she could transfer it onto a page. I tore my eyes away from Alex and looked at her instead. She looked so sweet and innocent in her light blue shirt and black jeans, with her hair pulled back in a low ponytail. She had at least half the eyes in the room, but she was no match for my Alex.

Alex was gorgeous. There was no other way to say it. He was so good, inside and out. I just had to get enough courage to ask him to be my boyfriend, and maybe then I would finally feel satisfied.

I looked to my left and saw Hercules staring at Eliza too. He turned to face me, before whispering, "You know who would make a really cute couple?"

"No?" I replied. Not entirely true: Alex and I would make an amazing couple.

"Eliza and Alex," He responded.

My stomach churned. "No, she's not... she's not... I don't know. She's not right for him."

Herc sighed and shrugged. "I disagree. Those two would be so cute together. I mean, Eliza would be the sensible one and Alex would be the smart one. They're both hot, and both really social people. They would so be cute together!"

Lafayette leaned over to Herc. "What did you just say?"

"Eliza. Alex. What do you think?" Herc turned away from me and faced Laf.

"Oh my GOD!" Laf squealed. "That would be perfect!"

"That's what I think. John doesn't though," Herc said, before turning to me. I gritted my teeth, not wanting to be a part of their dumb gossiping.

"Why?" Laf whined. "They would be such a cute couple!"

"They just wouldn't, though. Am I the only one smart enough to see that?" I snapped.

Both Herc and Laf fell silent. I sat back in my seat, regretting nothing. I glanced across at Alex, who realised I was looking at him and put the pen down.

"What did I miss?" He asked. I loved his voice; it was so sweet and smooth, but intelligent at the same time.

"Nothing," I replied quickly.

"Ignore John," Hercules started. "What Laf and I think is that you and Eliza would make a really cute couple."

Alex's eyes swivelled over to Eliza. In that moment, Eliza looked at him, and their eyes met. Eliza blushed a cute pink when Alex smiled at her. She turned away, but her eyes kept glancing at Alex.

"Well," Alex said to Herc and Laf, "We're just gonna have to see how it goes." Laf clapped in excitement and Herc through a triumphant glance at me. I sulked, seriously pissed off with the world.

I slammed open my art book and grabbed a pencil. I had some coursework to finish, and I wasn't going to let these stupid little gossips get in the way.

But my entire world came crashing down a few hours later. I sat with Herc and Laf in the cafeteria, waiting for Alex to arrive from his class, presumably politics. He'd be getting his essay graded for extra credit. I tried to tune in to Laf's pointless conversation.

"I had the hardest history test ever today," Laf moaned. "Honestly, I didn't even get the notes until yesterday, and when I did, I just couldn't focus. In truth, I was probably winging that test." I gritted my teeth. Alex had broken off our meeting to send him those notes, and apparently they weren't even useful anyway. We didn't even ever have casual sex because every time we got interrupted by someone like Laf.

Alex walked into the cafeteria, so I leaned back and waved to him, only to then see he was with Eliza. I found myself choking back vomit as I saw them talking. Alex didn't even acknowledge me.

But Eliza was blushing that practiced shade of pink again, so clearly it wasn't just a conversation about the work. Alex turned away from her to look for us, and then Laf leaned back and waved. Alex saw and acknowledged him, clearly I wasn't important enough. Alex led Eliza over to our table and they both sat down beside me.

"Hey, John?" Alex said, already bringing out the puppy eyes. "We were wondering if you could do us a favour. You see, we're going out on Friday night, and we were wondering if you could come too."

"You wouldn't be on your own!" Eliza blurted. "I mean, no one likes to third-wheel; I'm bringing my sister, so if you could sit and chat to her, we'd love you forever."

I sat dumbfounded. Alex - my Alex - was going on a date with that Schuyler Skank. My heart skipped a beat with hurt, but Alex was doing his puppy eyes and he looked so hopeful. I gritted my teeth again and nodded.

"Sure." I simply stated. Eliza clapped her hands and Alex smiled at me.

"Thanks, John, we really appreciate it!" Eliza said, her voice sickly sweet.

If there was a bright side to this whole situation, I would at least spend the evening debating with Angelica Schuyler and therefore distracting Alex. He had to get into a debate. Distracting him would be the easiest thing ever.

As for him and Eliza, it wouldn't last. It just wouldn't.

So I'm sorry if this is still crap, I'm trying to make it exciting, but I'm not a very experienced writer. If you have any tips or constructive criticism, I would be really happy to hear it :) (No hate, please, though).
