-Chapter Twelve-
"In other news Quitton William, the young man who was convicted of brutally raping a young girl in early November, was released on bail this afternoon." The news anchor in the dark grey suit turned to the left and tapped his hand on the desk. "Here's Wendy with the weather."
The knot in my throat grew, almost closing my throat.
"Kendall?" I swallowed the knot quickly and turned to Natalie, who was sitting next to me on the couch. "Are you okay?"
Bail! Who the hell would bail out that monster! My head screamed.
I turned the tv off and stood up.
"I think so." My voice sounded weak. She frowned and set her hand on my shoulder.
"Let's go get something to eat." She said with my favorite everything-is-going-to-be-alright smile. We walked outside and a red pick up truck pulled up.
"Oh great." I mumbled.
Drew slung the door open and jogged up to us. By the look on his face he could tell I saw the news. "I was hoping to catch you before you saw." He took in a deep breath and rubbed his forehead.
"I didn't know. My mom went and bailed him out without telling anybody."
He sipped the water from the mug I just sat in front of him.
My mouth fell open.
"Your mom? I thought she liked me!"
He frowned. "She does! She just loves Quitton. He's the first born. She said something about how he's changed and she's going to send him to Canada or something."
Natalie groaned. "It's been three bloody months! How much could he have changed?."
Drew rolled his eyes. "Tell me about it." I stopped them.
"Guys let's not talk about it." They dropped it and we walked to Drew's truck.
"Mind if I hang out with you ladies?" He batted those big blue eyes.
Natalie shrugged. "Alright with me." They looked at me as I tucked my hands in my pocket.
"Sure."
Drew smilled at me and we all piled in his truck.
We pulled up to the coffee shop. "Kendall. I think somebody need you."
I look up as we step into the shop. Natalie points to a corner table with a boy by himself.
"He looks like a sad puppy Ken."
Natalie pouted at me. "Fine." I groaned.
"Make sure to get me tea." I said, dragging my feet to the table where Bryson sat.
"Hi."
I said as I pulled out the chair and sat down. Without looking up he shrugged.
"Hey." He barely opened his mouth.
I propped my elbows on the table and watch him stir his coffee.
"How are you Bryson?"
He scoffed. "How am I?"
Confused, I nodded.
"Yeah, I haven't seen you in months. So how are you?"
He rolled his eyes and leaned back.
