it was monday.

rome felt sleep deprived. after his long happy weekend of bliss and clem, it was time to resurface to the real world. and he would do anything to go back to friday night. to clem sneaking into his bedroom. to her cuddling him. to their breakfast and blueberries. he already misses her.

he was at his locker presently, pulling out his books (that he barely ever opened) and shoving them into his backpack.

a body moved beside him. and when he looked up he saw sam. and the hope that it was someone else diminished inside him.

he can't get her out of his head.

"hey."

"hey."

"how was your weekend? you look hungover?" sam joked with a sly nudge to romes shoulder.

yeah, maybe hungover on love. rome thought bitterly.

"I didn't get much sleep. and my weekend was amazing." he smiled.

"dude. you're smiling. stop, I'm creeped out." sam said, physically shivering.

rome shrugged, "what? what's wrong with me smiling?" he asked, knitting his brows together.

sam rose his brows, "uh..you like..never smile. usually a grin or a smirk or just a tilt of one corner of your lips but not a real smile." he trailed off.

rome rolled his eyes with a huff and zipped up his backpack, "whatever, I have to go to class."

"well. we have first class together so..." sam said, walking beside him.

and when rome entered class, the girl he was searching for was not present.

"she's probably just late." sam suggested.

that's when rome realized he was so obviously staring at her empty seat.

"yeah." rome said absently and sat down. his eyes darting from her seat, the door, to the wall clock.

time passed and she still hadn't shown up.

he mumbled a quiet curse before shuffling his phone out of his pocket. trying to be as discreet as possible.

CLEM

he began typing out another text before his phone was yanked forcefully out of his hands.

"mr. abernathy! you know how I feel about these little cellulars! no texting in class! I'll be seeing you in detention. you can get your phone back there." the teacher announced in front of the whole class as her dark eyes pierced into romes soul.

"detention?" rome rolled his neck back with a groan. perfect.

just when the teacher restarted her lesson, romes phone dinged.
