We put one foot in front of the other. We move like we ain't got no other, we go where we go.

Chapter 21~Where We Go~
Corinth Corp Limit
Pop. 14,634My eyes landed on the sign when I was about a mile out, and some of the tension in my muscles drained away. I'd made it this far without any trouble.
I'd gotten off the bus in East View, where I'd seen a sign that Corinth was ten miles south. I'd figured that was as close as I was gonna get.
Still conscious of the fact that Red could be near, I'd kept off the main roads and stuck to the trees where I could. My feet had long since gone numb. Even this far south, the night were still chilly, and I wasn't exactly dressed for the weather. I was sure if anyone saw me, I'd stick out in their minds.
The ten mile walk had given me time to think, and time for the dread to settle in.
I desperately hoped that everyone had made it out of Loretto okay. I'd seen Kitler's vehicle break away from us, but I hadn't had any time to watch where they'd gone, or where Cas had driven off to. I hoped they were already here.
I drew closer to the edge of town as I continued just inside the tree-line, ducking around a few fallen trees.
-two pursuing the second vehicle now. Two in custody-
Go! Get out of here!
That was another thing that nagged me. Had anyone been caught? I hated not knowing what was happening.
It took me a moment to place the face in my wolf memory with the ones I knew now. It had been Phoenix who'd scared me off that field, but I had no way of knowing if he'd made it out okay.
I glanced down the road for a moment, watching for any vehicles. Then I moved out of the trees, crossing the road as I walked the last few hundred yards.
I wasn't sure yet how I was going to find the others. We hadn't made a plan of where to meet in the town, and I didn't have a phone. I didn't even know the cell number Reid had dialled, and I mentally cursed myself for not memorizing it when I had the chance.
Hind sight was always twenty-twenty.
I passed the corp limit, pausing as I looked over the town. There weren't any vehicles out, but it was after eleven so it wasn't that surprising. I could see a line of stop lights leading through downtown, as well as a gas station and a few houses lining the road.
There was a grassy area a few hundred yards to the left, with a gazebo and a dead flower bed surrounding it. A little farther, a large tree was decorated with white lights and-I squinted a little-red and green bulbs. The lights cast a small glow around the gazebo, and it made it seem peaceful. I shook my head.
Okay Ruby. What now?
I brought my hands up to my mouth, blowing to warm them up as I debated where to go. I really wanted out of this cold, but I was sure there had to be a hotel around somewhere. My best bet would be to check there first.
I inhaled slowly, ignoring the way the frigid air burned my throat and trying to focus on the scents around me.
I knew Cas's scent the best, so I tried to focus on it. I called to mind the pine and earth smell that was so familiar to him, but I couldn't separate it from the others.
There were too many different smells to differentiate from one another. A lingering scent of gasoline with cigarette smoke made my eyes water. Pine trees, mint, and about a hundred other things I couldn't immediately identify were also mixed in . This was going to be harder than I'd thought. I could only hope Cas and Shani would have an easier time finding me, than I would them.
