Part 1

💗 Clarice's P.O.V 💗

I listened to my history teacher drone on about some war in India when I couldn't help but lay my head down on the table. I looked out of the window beside me and saw two pigeons that were snuggling next to each other on the electrical wire.

I sighed dreamily at the adorable sight. "Clarice? Clarice?" My teacher's voice caused my head to jerk up. "What's the answer to the question?" he pointed to the question that he had written on the board. But oddly the words were moving.

"1987..." a voice whispered over to me.

"19..1987" I stuttered, my voice loud and harsh against the all too quiet classroom where only distant snores could be heard at the back of the class. "Correct!"

I heaved a sigh of relief and glanced to my side to see who my saviour was  and was greeted by a pair of dazzling eyes. "Thanks!" I whispered to my childhood friend, Ye Kai. He has cool grey eyes and slightly messy blonde hair. He was wearing a short sleeved white shirt and ripped jeans that clung to his fair skin, emphasizing his lean frame.

Looking at him brought back memories of our childhood together, how we used to swim together every Saturday, rivaling each other. He played with other neighborhood boys but I was the only girl he found that wasn't prissy like others or followed what mummy said. So we stuck like metal to a magnet and stayed best friends till now, High School.

Just in time the bell rang snapping me out of my daydream for the second time. "You should really pay attention more often." Not to mention Ye Kai was also a major nag. He could have been a replacement for my mom! "Since you're such a lazy arse to get your work done."

I punched him on his shoulder but couldn't help but break out into a smile. "I told you. I would do it if the teachers gave us something that wasn't chicken feet, and I mean literally." We broke into a roar of laughter like it was our little inside joke.

I recalled last week as I brought home my biology homework and sat it on the kitchen table. I was suppose to be cutting up chicken feet and poking its muscles and bones. Not exactly the greatest thing to do but for the sake of an A to complete my all-A report card, I had to go through this.

But on Monday I finally got to use the term "my dog ate my homework " for a true purpose and it was all courtesy to our family dog Girl Girl.

I smiled as I recalled the priceless look on my bio teacher's face when she saw the left over chewed meat in my hands. "Clare!" A familiar voice called out. I turned around and gave a wave as my best friend briskly, yet gracefully walked towards me.

Kristle had changed over those 8 years, her cheek bones were starting to settle in nicely and soon he had developed curves. But everybody changes and soon from her once hyper, annoying and loud self she turned into a petite, shy and sweet girl.

"Kristle!" she ran next to me and gave me a broad smile. "Have lunch with us?"

I saw her cheeks grow pink as she looked down shyly and smiled, "I'm going to have lunch with Tristan... So-" I cut her short and gave her a secret wink with a knowing look.

She hugged me and ran off ahead of me. "What was that all about?" Ye Kai raised an eyebrow at me.

"Is it me or is California getting hotter?" I remarked as I fanned myself dramatically and slowly inched my way down the hallway. I glanced at Ye Kai just in time to see him roll his eyes at me. "Come on let's go, or it's going to be crowded," I smiled as I slapped him on his shoulder. "Race ya!" And with that, I sped down the hallway leaving him in the dust, mouth agape and face in confusion.

I raced down the hallways feeling the stale air finally come to live as it blew through my hair and before long I was face to face with a huge room bustling with teens the smell of sweat and grease bleached the stale air outside of it.

I took a step into the cafeteria and after that all that happened next was a blur but I only saw one thing, a pair of green mischievous eyes.

Suddenly I felt a splat and a loud mummer of gasps and the whole cafeteria was in silence. And it was then I realized it was because of me, with someone's lunch all over me. And not just anybody, it was Jerk face's lunch.

"Oh hey Cla-rice, didn't see you there." I had the least idea what he was saying but I assumed he said that. I picked a single grain of rice from my hair as he continued speaking. I could already feel hot tears forming.

"You look a lot better too with your new look." And with that, I had enough. I had pepperoni in my bra and I didn't need this jerk in my face. "Jarly. Enough," I snapped. This caught his attention as no one usually called him by his real name. Well this was the first time anyway.

"I am covered in your disgusting lunch thank you very much. You know for a huge ego like yours you still eat a lot of weird crap. What is this? Seaweed? Your kidding." Jaryl didn't answer me. He just stood there, staring at me dumbfounded.

"Well if you're to dumb too speak could you at least understand the word 'MOVE'," I hissed shouting the last word. I shoved past him not before adding with a disgusted hiss, "Disgusting jerk."

I was fuming with rage as I pushed my way into the girl's bathroom. "That jerk! He did it on purpose! That son of a-"

"Clare! Are you alright?" Ye Kai barged in, taking in my whole ruined appearance with a scan.

I looked at him in horror. "Ye Kai get the hell out of here! This is a girl's bathroom!" Instead of immediately rushing out of the girls' bathroom like normal guys do, he came over and plucked a rice grain out of my hair.

"You smell weird," he commented with a sniff of my hair and I shoved him with my elbow.

"Come on help me remove every single disgusting rice from my hair, best friend," I replied putting inverted commas. "And this was my best outfit too..."

In the midst of picking rice from my hair, Ye Kai stopped and gave me the look. "Your best outfit is a hoodie, a striped shirt, a mini skirt and a pair of tights? I'm sorry but that is so last season," he replied with a fake girly accent.

Again, I whacked him but ended up bursting into an up roar of laughter.
