Chapter 8: If You Love Something, Set It Free

Kristle’s POV

Well after the whole MASH meeting, I went home with Jessica. She was awfully quiet in the meeting. I wonder what happened after she went with Grace. She didn’t come home until 5.30 AM.

Since then, she was always in deep thought.

“ Hey Kristle.”

“ Yeah?”

“ Why didn’t you tell Tristan how you felt?”

I admit that question caught me off guard but I kept my giddy feelings from surfacing and said, “ I already told you. It’s because of friendship.”

“ Was that all?”

I stopped dead at my tracks. I bit my lip and got into the train of thoughts.

Was that all? I don’t think so…

"... No.”

“ Then what is it?”

I turned back at my sister and gave her a sad smile.

“ Sis?”

“ Yeah?”

“ The answer is gonna quite make you upset or angry.”

“ It’s okay. Shoot.”

“ Have you ever heard of the saying: ‘ When you love something set it free’?”

 She hesitated before saying, “ Yeah…”

“I love Tristan. Telling him how I feel will damage our friendship for good. It will also not set him free. The rest of the saying goes: ‘if it comes back, it’s yours but if it doesn’t, it was never meant to be.’ I’m scared that when I do tell him, he will never come back and be friends as always. I’m sorry for saying this but look what happened with you and Joel. You taught me a lesson to be careful and I thank you. Please don’t get mad at me for saying this.”

There was a short and awkward pause. Finally, after what might be centuries, Jessica said, “

You’re right. Smart answer coming fom a 16-year-old. It’s true. Joel and I were never meant to be together right?”

“I wouldn’t say that sis. Everything ends with happily ever after. It just depends on how you look at the world. There was a time where you and Joel were together, right? The truth is, I’ve never seen you so happy in your life. You were so charismatic. I really don’t know, sis but I do know your happily ever after is going to come. It may not be today but it will be someday.”

Jessica just looked at me then suddenly gave me a bone-crushing hug. “ You’re the smartest sister ever! Thank you.”
