Sidney's POV

The hammering ache in my head remains, but Gena's touch is slowly healing me. After a while I finally gather the strength to open my eyes and look up at her. She's a mess- her golden hair is shoved into a high ponytail, baby hairs flying out every which way. The bags under her eyes are prominent, and all the color has long since drained from her face. She has no makeup on, only the slightest bit of smudged mascara in the creases of her sapphire eyes. Her lips are thin and chapped, but they continue to whisper sweet melodies to me as I dip in and out of consciousness. "You look so beautiful." I murmur to her as the wall clock clicks over to 6.

She smiles again, and I can tell that any minute either of us is going to pass out. "I guess I'm not going to that doctor's appointment today." She giggles, her voice so fatigued it comes out drunk.

"Doctor's appointment?" I fail to mask the concern in my voice as I glance up at the beautiful blonde. Her smile remains but the sadness in her eyes is evident and cloudy. "Yeah," she says quietly, her voice shaky. "I, um... I had this thing kinda going on for a while now." She looks away, embarrassed.

I run my thumb over the back of her hand in attempt to comfort her. "Is it a girly thing?" She shakes her head immediately and chuckles again.

"No, nothing like that. Just a weird thing. I can't really explain it." Gena sounds disappointed and I bring her hand up to my lips.

"Try as best you can." I murmur into her hand and kiss her cold fingers.

"Well... the other day, I had this unbearable pain in my leg... it woke me up in the middle of the night because it was so bad. I tried everything, stretches and pills but nothing kicked it and I was literally crying myself to sleep because it felt like there was a ton of weight pushing down on my leg. It was really idiotic. I don't even know what caused it." She explains. I close my eyes and listen to her.

"Gena," I say, still holding her hand. "Have you started a new fitness routine?"

She shakes her head yes and looks down at me. "I've started going back to the gym after work and I'm running in the morning again." She says. I meet her gaze and nod.

"That's why. Your body isn't used to the physical activity so your legs are probably cramping." I poke her nose playfully and kiss her hand again. She closes her eyes and laughs at herself.

"Of course." I chuckle and shake my head.

"Can you help me try to sit up?" I ask her, my voice small. She nods and pulls her hand out of mine. I feel her hand cradle the back of my head. Gena reaches over my body and tucks her other hand under my right shoulder.

"Try leaning forward now." She says gently. "Slowly though, be careful." I do as Gena explains and gradually raise myself to a sitting position. My head spins as I stop moving, and Gena holds me in a hugging position. "Can you stand?" She asks quietly and kicks her bag further away.

"I think so." I grab her free hand and try to push up from the wooden floor. I feel Gena's arm around my back again, and in three minutes we're both on our feet. At last I'm looking down on her, as she was easily three inches shorter than me.

"Are you okay?" She smiles and I nod. I realize I'm still holding her hand, and I'm about to let go when she steps onto the first stair. "You really need to lay down, like comfortably. Let me help you back upstairs." I nod again and squeeze her hand as I slowly make my way upstairs.

"Gena, your bag..." I motion back downstairs as she opens my bedroom door.

She shakes her head dismissively. "I'll get it later, let me take care of you first." She grins and fluffs my pillows, angling them so my head would be more elevated. She turns out the corner of the comforter and motions to me. "Here, come on." I follow her directions and shake my head when I see that her tired smile has never left her face. After I've made myself comfortable, I turn and see her walking out of the door.

"You're not leaving, right?" I ask, glancing at the clock.

7:32

"Well, soon, yeah. I have to go to work later and I have that appointment at nine." The fatigue in her voice is screaming. "Gena, no. You can't drive right now, you haven't slept in almost 24 hours."

"I'll be fine, Sidney." She smiles again at me and my stomach ties into a knot. "Gena, please. Stay here. Call off today and cancel that appointment. Finally the grin drops from her face. "Sid, I can't not show up for work. I mean, my boss will understand if I call in but-"

"Call him then," I beg. "Please don't drive right now Gena. You're too tired, you're going to crash." She closes her eyes and rests her head against the door frame. Her perfect eyebrows push together and for a moment she looks as if she's about to cry from stress.

"You're right." She groans. "I'll go make-do on the couch downstairs."

"No, what the hell? Go downstairs and get your bag, then come back here and I'll set you up, okay?"

"Okay." She giggles and walks out of the room.

When Gena returns I'm half asleep. "Sid?" She calls out gently. My eyes fly open and I grin at her. "Just put your bag wherever. Uh, how are your clothes? That jacket doesn't look very comfortable for sleeping in." I motion to the long flannel she had thrown on before she got here. Gena shrugs. "I'll be fine."

I can't suppress a chuckle. "Stop saying that. Go grab one of my shirts and change so you can sleep fine. She laughs and walks over to the dresser, pulling open a drawer and grabbing a black cotton t-shirt. "This one?" She shows it to me and I nod. "If you like it." Her adorable giggle fills the room as she slips the flannel off her shoulders, tossing it at her bag and sliding my shirt over her white camisole. She looks down and laughs when she sees the hem of the shirt ending midway down her thighs.

"Come here, you." I smile and attempt to push out the opposite corner of the sheets like she had for me. Gena walks over to the bed and disappears under the covers. "I'm cold." Her muffled voice comes out. "But I like this shirt, it's comfy and it smells like you." I hear her laugh again and I reach out for her hand. "Come. Here." I stress, holding my arms out for her. She turns to face me, and we both laugh as she scoots closer to me. When she's close enough, I wrap my arms around her and bury my face in her hair, nuzzling the crook of her neck. "Your hair smells so cute." I mumble and her chuckle resonates her body again.

"You're so weird." She says as I start playing with the ends of her hair. I grab a lock of it and gently twirl it around my fingers. "Soft." I comment and smile.

"Mmm." Gena murmurs into the pillow and I push up on my elbow so I'm hovering over her. "Can you take my ponytail out?" Gena mumbles and I run my thumb over her cheek.

"Yeah." I gather her blonde locks in my hands and gently loosen the band from the golden strands. I place the hair tie in her outstretched hand and kiss her cheek, lingering for a moment. A small grin plays on her pale cheeks as I lay back on my pillows, hugging her close to me. I feel her arm brush mine, and then her hands are covering mine.

"Go to sleep, babe." I mumble into her rose-scented hair.

"Trying." She says, her voice now cracking the way it always does when she's falling asleep. "I'll try not to sleep too long." She says and squeezes my wrist.

"Don't worry about it. Now go to sleep." I say, my tone much more gentle than my words. I kiss her hair and hear her giggle quietly again.

"I love you," she whispers airily.

"I love you too." I breathe into her neck, and with that she's asleep. Her breathing becomes more relaxed and her grip on my hands loosen.

And for the thousand and tenth time, I fall asleep with a smile on my face because of Gena.
